I do see them rebuilt on ebay going for $300.
I think I will give that a try.

There you go. It will help recoupe some of the money you spent having the new one installed. Or you would just have a good spare as a "just in case" deal.

Way cheaper is right. I used to do a lot of the work on my own. But with kids, additional work load, and numerous other personal obligations I just don't get the self satisfaction out of spending an afternoon on my bike as I used to when I was 'younger'. I hate to say this, but I'd rather avoid the aggravation and pay someone to do it now. It just steams me when I need to question the quality of the work. I don't mind paying for quality work.

Anyway, I discovered the battery in my bike is a Yuasa YTX-20L with 270 cca. I checked the Yuasa site and they recommend the YTX-20HL for an '03 Chopp. It has 310 cca. I would think 40 extra cca makes quite a difference. So, it's off for a battery swap.

I understand the time constraints. But when it comes to repairs, I try to do it myself, as I hate having someone take may hard earned 75 hour per week salary pay. Here is a case in point that just happened two weeks ago (unrelated to the bike but...). My sewer plumbing stopped up on a Sunday afternoon, I called a place named Mr Rooter, to have my drain snaked. I watched as he said he could not clear the line, (seemed to me not alot of effort was used), He said my finnished basement needed to be escavated starting at 4000.00 for the 1st 4 feet. He said this could cost as much as 12,000 dollors!!!!. Being a Sunday and without being able to flush toilets or shower, I forked over a 4000.00 deposit using a cc. As soon as he left and waiting for the escavation crew, I began to freak out over this cost estimate. I ran down to Home Depot and rented a rooter for 45.00. I never rooted a drain before, but was able to clear the line within 30 minutes!!!!

The escavation crew had yet to show up and I cancelled the work imediately with full refund of my deposit. Case in point. I forked out 45.00 doing it myself, verse 4000.00 to 12,000 to trust a ,so called PROFESSIONAL!!!!
I really did not have the time to deal with it, but knowing how long it takes to save 12K I jumped on it!

How does this relate to you? You paid some big bucks and didn't get the Battery or Starter you would have chosen, and could have done it for half the price.
