I know most of you have done this long ago but I am fairly new and was tired of hitting my plate,
stumbled across the DIY/How to and thought "How hard can it be"......

This thought normally gets me into trouble, but today it worked out :2thumbs:

Mine reads from bottom to top also, I haven't had a chance to check Missouri yet, but I think it needs to read from top to bottom. I know in some states, they will gig you for that. Kind of like Florida, where your not suppose to have it sideways.

I just got a text back from Viper, I asked him which way was correct, and his response was, and I quote, " Actually neither. By law it is required to be horizontal. Even on trailers." Unquote This come straight from a Missouri Highway Patrol

Yeah Scott I lived in Muskegon for a few years when I was younger and it wasn't too bad. I love the UP for fishing but heard the jobs are just as bad there. Hope you're enjoying your new scooter.

Did mine last month too....took 15 minutes.....

As far as the law....here's the law for IOWA, just in case someone needs the info:

321.37 states "The registration plate issued for a motorcycle or other vehicle required to be registered hereunder shall be attached to the rear of the vehicle."

321.38 states "Every registration plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued so as to prevent the plate from swinging and at a height of not less than twelve inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of the plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible. "

I've been pulled over for speeding with the plate sideways, but officer never mentioned it.....nor did I end up getting a ticket.....was more interested in chatting about the bike.....:D

Older law also says you can NOT have ANY of the lettering covered on any of your plates...and there was a big news article on it the other day, they started writing plenty of tickets for it...must be running short of funds....

:up:I don't know who's bonehead idea it was to put the plate on horizontal but this is the easiest and one of the best mods you can do after gettin rid of the ugly reflectors!

I use to hate getting the back of my calf taken out by the license tag.
Now it just flips out of the way, if I don't flip it out of the way first, when it hits my calf.
