that time of year, make sure you have good rain gear. not just for the rain but for the heavy fog. when it gets foggy on the parkway, you can't see shit!!!!!!!!!!

What is the days you will be riding. I plan to ride with another from 18-22 OCT, not sure where we are going yet, but somewhere.

Also if you are going to Skyline and then Blue Ridge, you may be in my area heading to the Blue Ridge. I leave just north of Winchester VA on the WV side, if I am at hime (currently in Afghanistan) and you are coming my way, maybe hook hook up with you for at least part of the ride to Skyline.

Let me know, should be home on 13 OCT onward.

You might want to take a short detour in Wythesville, Va. and hop on highway 16(back of the dragon) Lots of curves and 32 miles long. there's a harley shop right there(black bear harley) that has free maps of the local routes. Third week of October is getting real chilly in the mornings. The wife and I are planning a trip back out to Kentucky mid Oct. and will be taking all back roads thru the mountains. If you are into the scenery, you can't pick better country on the east side.

I am planning a day trip up there but not really set a day yet. It is just about 3 and a half hours from here, up and back in a day . Now that I am back working it will be a Saturday for sure. If you are coming through the dragon from NC it is beutiful scenary , crooked roads everywhere. I wouldn't want ride it in the fog ,, as the old fart said the fog gets thick and you can't see at all. Oh, as you are coming out of the curves towards the end there is a gravel parking lot on the right, a great place for a shinny black blount county sherriff to give ya the same speech about the speed limit as he did me last year. It is 30 mph not 62 mph! If it is raining I will take the truck and cut through cades cove to the dragon , a cool trip there too. recominds 4 wheel drive!

have a great trip,,, maybe I can slip in while your up there,

Ray

Not sure what I am going to do, got a friend that is supposed to rdie with me between the 18-22 OCT, but still not sure where. He in wanting to head to OHIO and see his son, so if it pans out, will go that way.

That said if not, may indeed just head south and do some riding down that way, stop and see sister and what not in Maryville, mom and other up in SE KY. We will see but the timing is right, all depends on the buds if he follows through.

The Buell would be fun on the Dragon, but a bitch to ride down there from WV near DC, still neve say never.

I will keep the plans in mind and let you knwo once I get closer to home and out of the sanbox and see how things are laid out. All I can say for sure is I am going riding come hell or high water come OCT 18, even if it is on a my Gas Gas or an old wooded skateboard!!!!!

OK, let me know. I am trailering up and we will be staying in a campground. Haven't decided where yet. I will bring my Duc. I have a GasGas 300 Pro, and I am going to bring that, too.
I am hoping BB Chopper will ride with me. He will have some back surgery in a few days, so it is questionable.

Anthony I went a couple of years ago right around this time of year too. It was perfect. My only tip would be ride the tail on a weekday and not Saturday or Sunday. It gets alot of weekend warriors trying to break their personal records and asses. Very crowded on the weekend with folks trying to race the ride, which is cool if you're on a crotch rocket. I went on a Thursday and the idiots were still there but less of them. Take your time and don't let the peer pressure of keeping up get the better of you. I'd hate to see BigDog parts hung here.

Hey Fiber: I'll send you a PM with more details as we make further decisions, but some developments below...

Never realized how hard it would be to schedule a fun ride with five other guys :job: Anyway, firmed up the dates last nite - we are going to be leaving philly on Thusday October 25 riding through lancaster then gettysburg turning south and running down through Skyline and blue ridge to Roanoke (first day overnight there) then onto the gapo the second day. Still kicking arouind where else to go/stay (anny suggestions are wlecomed) Last night I heard the GattlinBurg, TN is a good place stay overnight or to visit on the way. Also got a tip to stop at "biltmore estate" ?

Unfortunatly I think the way the dates are falling we will probably end up being on the Dragon Saturday or sunday - right in the middle of hammerheads, huh...

As fo rhte peer pressure - I am planning on going slow enough to read my safety manual along the way

Well you will be coming my way then. Should be around the 25th and will look for the PM. I should be able to hook up with you as you head down from Gettysburg and ride with you at least for part of the way down.

Let me know and if at all possible we will hook up.

I'll PM you my home and cell number for later.

Yeah Anthony actually it will probably very entertaining to see all the speed demons on the weekend, when I was there I just kept an eye on my mirrors and moved to the right when I saw 'em coming. Only had one really dangerous dipshit come by, he almost caught me with his shoulder her came so close. The whole road is no passing so most people are courteous enough to wait until you move right and wave them by. And yeah my goal was no skinned knees or footpegs. I had the Mrs. on the back and we just pleasure rode the tail. Does take a lot of focus and concentration for the turn after turn after turn. You'll love it. I hope to return again someday soon. Take some pics to share.
