My dealer recomended either the EVO harley oil filter, or the K&N filter for big dog 117 motor. It looks like they are the same diameter. I just want to know what your opinion on the EVO filter because it is cheaper and readily available. Yes I have seen the theads on the other filters here, I will be saving my money up to get one in the future.

I asssume your saving for the K&P? Just go ahead and get yourself a K&N for now the 170C is the filter you want. You can scoop it up on Amazon for less than $12 Shipped.

Once you scraped up the change to get the K&P MadDog with Value Teck is your man. Fast Shipping and best prices on this side of cyber space.

I'm an S&S Engine School graduate (and S&S Dealer) and heres the proper advice & information for you regarding Oil Filters & Oil in your S&S engine:

S&S Engines REQUIRE a 30 Micron Filter system - part# 31-4102
That particular dense & easy flow (30 Micron) filter is whats needed to maintain a constant CLEAN flow of oil back to the engine and tank.
They run $13.85 over the counter or from any S&S Dealer or S&S direct.

Using a cheaper less rated and foriegn filter is asking for headaches, trouble sleeping and domestic violence issues when the engine doesn't get the clean and proper oil flow.
K&N oil Filters are a good substitute if the S&S isn't available to you in or near where you live.

DO NOT use a H-D filter (No disrespect intended-but it's a korean or taiwanese made unit and inferior in every way possible)-avoid using that and buy an S&S or K&N Oil Filter for your S&S Engine. And Mobil1 20W50 Full Synthetic Oil.

Vince how does Redline 2050 synthetic stack up against mobil as far as quality? I just bought enough redline to do an oil change and its expensive. Can I switch to Mobil after I put redline in? I hear some people say once you start running one brand of synthetic in your motor you shouldnt switch to something else.

That's a marketing scam to make people think they have to stick with a specific oil they have been using. Any name brand synthetic will be fine. I happen to be a little prejudiced as I am an AMSOIL dealer. Use the redline and when its time and you want to switch do so without any worry.
AMSOIL Prefered Buyer Program. Buy Synthetic Lubricants At Dealer Cost.

redline is good oil, as with mobil 1, amsoil, royal purple, ect, just run it and when you change it in the spring put what you want it will be ok
