Dead battery again????

So I put my battery tender on everyday. The other day I ride half the day go to start my bike it starts to turn over but stops and the horn beeps. Try again the same thing. My buddy jump starts me I ride home and the speedometer does not work. Go buy a new battery and again ride half the day same thing. It starts to turn over horn beeps, dead. So I jump start come home swap the battery and this time as I hook up the positive side first then the negative, but as soon as I touch the negative I get a spark without the key on.....Could that mean I have a short somewhere

Sounds like you found the source, a short! now the real work begins tracking it down - good luck dude!

I believe you mean "Draw". A short would trip the breaker or fuse depending on your config. A draw pulls down the battery all the time and offers that spark you mentioned. You dont have those LEDs or any other acc. hooked up?

I have lizards lights hooked up but I have had those for at least 5mos. never had a problem. I guess I can disconnect those and see what happens.

Keep a voltmeter hooked up when you start disconnecting things so that you can identify the source.

Thanks,,, I will head to the shop now and try to figure this out. As you can tell I have no clue what the hell I am doing but gotta learn sometime.

Do you have any lights illuminated on the EHC? That will tell you if you have grounds that affect it. It's a good thing you keep the battery on the tender but after a while the batteries just aren't any good and need replaced.

I have only 2 lights that light up. Is that what is suppose to happen?

Should only have the one red ignition lit. Check out Gas Mans post with the diagram of EHC lights and tell us which ones are lit up on your's.

I have the controller green light on and flashing and the yellow power light is steady.

Turn your key back on and then click the run button. This should give you the red ignition light and any grounds that you may have. But you have to click the "Run" button first.

I'm betting like Thumper said... his circuit breaker or fuse(if you had the most recent recall done that replaces the cb) is popped.

Circuit breaker. It has a little button on it that pops.

It could either be a real short or you just simply touched a wrench on the + battery terminal. You can also pop the CB or fuse by jumping it. Further, don't ever jump the bike with a running car. It will Fuck up the bike.

Now if your VR is smoked, it could be killing your battery. That is what happened to me last year. You can test for this as well.

This is when a service manual comes into play.

So i can just simply reset the circuit breaker myself? Where exactly is that located on a 07 K9?

ok I took my oil pan cover off and found the circuit breaker it is upside down on a 07 K9. I pushed it in but it came right back out. So I am guessing it is bad. I will go to my Dealer in the morning and get a new one if you all think that is the problem.

Voltage regulator......located bottom of down tubes...in the pic....its the polished thing that has the fins on it in .....you can just see mine on the bottom of the down tubes center....thats shadowed...

So do you think my VR is what is popping the circuit breaker then and causing my battery to get drained everyday?

By the way you guys are great for walking me through this. As you can tell I am not mechanically inclined at all,, but not scared to try and fix it myself.
