I have started to have a rattle from my dash/Instrument panel that fits on top of the tank. I slightly lifted the rear section of it and noticed what appeared to be a rubber grommet slid over the shank of of a screw with a pointed tip. I pulled the grommet off and it was damaged so i got a new one, placed in on the screw underneath and aligned it with the little slit groove at on the bottom of the dash panel itself and gently pushed down on it and thought that may be that was all there was to it.. The Phuckin thing still rattles!!
My question is; does anybody know how to tighten or adjust that panel so it won't move more then it needs to?
Drives me crazy all through accelerations..
Hope somebody on here has spent time under that panel and can lend a idea.

This is my 'go-to' rattle repair in a tube. It's called "Amazing Goop" glue. Home Depot carries it. Marketing tool wise I think it's the same stuff. So do not be confused if it says, marine, plumbing, all purpose, it smells and works the same, being I used every tube named. The beauty of thishit is that you can remove it from the repair as if it never existed. It's semi-rubberized so it will give if glued in such a way. Glue a quarter over a hole in the gas tank, no, it's not coming off or will move.

Another thing you may want to look @. Does your dash have any plastic trim on the edges? If not, any auto parts store will have some thin self stick black edge trim. Or perhaps they will have a suitable color? You will prolly want to remove the entire dash and fix the rear hold down as well. My 04 Pit uses a bolt on the lower portion (they made it easy in 04!). The trim made the rattle disappear tho... jmo.

Also on my '05 mastiff in the front, way up under the dash is a bracket with 2 7/32 Allen bolts that hold the front tight.

My 02 Pit has a button head allen screw ( 10- 24 x 1 1/2 " ), that threads into a nut under the rear bracket. Like HMAM said, the edge trim should help protect the tank paint and cut the rattle down a bit.

Always wondered what supposed to be there , mine had a threaded rod w/a wing nut from the previous owner when I bought it. Haha

Been fixing their
"engineering " every since I got it home lol

Thanks for all the feedback.. The instrument panel already had the side trim pieces and the 2 allen head screws that chubs eluded to were good and tight. What did it for me was a trip to Mc Clendon's hardware store and getting the next size up Rubber grommet. I believe it was 3/16 x 1/2. When i stuck that one on, lined it up and gently pushed down it almost liked "clicked right into place and i knew i had it!!. Took her out for a great ride yesterday in the beautiful 85 degree weather near Seattle and LIFE WAS GOOD MY FRIENDS!!

Keep the rubber on the road and always assume people don't see you

Roll some thunder in a town near you
