My 03 solo seat has no suction cups, but uses a small chrome knurled nut on the rear fender to hold hold it in place, and I have no scratches. I also use a 2 up as well and no permanent marks from seat, but I also clean and polish the fender often.

You will need to put the protection tape down or you will have scratches/rub marks from the suction cups.:bang: I'm not sure why BDM doesn't just go ahead and do this at the factory prior to shipping...maybe it has something to do with the new paint needing some time to cure? :loony:

Have a 03 choppa with knurled nut at the rear of the seat to hold it in place and a 6 cup rear pad. No permanent scratching in fender as of yet. I clean the fender real good with detailer and the suction cups on the passenger pad before I stick it down. I just use a water-dampened rag to wipe the suction cups before I stick it down.

I put the 3m protection on my rear fender to protect it from the p pad. You can definitely see that it's on there, but worth it to protect the paint.

Chopped, did you put the protection tape/sheet on yourself or have the dealer do it? Just curious on how tricky it is to install?

The dealer did it, but I probably would have done a better job than they did. Just get the 3M application spray and do it yourself. As long as you push all of the water and air out, it will look good.

I have heard that putting the film on is a nightmare and that the cure winds up being worse than the disease, this is what the BD tech tells me. They are also redoing my fendor now for having the seat on an off at shows etc. The "felt" on the seats is not soft, it is abrasive. I am having that abrasive layer removed and a layer of something softer "non' abrasive. The seats not going anywhere with my tall sissy on the back, I think this material does more damage to the paint over time that the sucker cups do. It will finally come out to a lot of "spider web" looking cracks and patterns on your fendor.
