Damn JST connections!

Has anyone here ever been able to pull the pins on their JST connections in a way that would keep the housings reusable!? I had an old 2-pin i thought i would deconstruct to save parts. But GEEZ after fighting it for an hour both pins broke free and now the housing won't hold them in. The pins just slide in and out. Im beginning to think these things were designed to be 1 time use!! Ok. Rant over. On to the next

There are TOOLS to do that. With patience and practice they can be removed using an x-acto blade to depress the tab but it's a PITA.

They are a bitch Luke. Like Mikey said, it can be done. I had to do it on the Pit during the rebuild. I tried several "tools". Cheap Harbor Freight dental picks worked, if I 'member right?

There is a JST pin tool, but I made a tool using a sewing machine needle and a wood dowel handle. I had to sand down the tip of the needle a little but it works. The needle is hardend so it will not bend. I do not know if this kit has the right size but look on Amazon or pull the JST spec sheet. It should have the pin size needed.

I used a smashed paper clip...a sewing needle...and a Xmas ornament hanger. Nothing worked. Next time I'll break out the big guns

They are bad, and mess with my eyesight.

I use a Bobby pin that is flat in section, that works better that the tool , lots of light, magnifying glasses and load of patience which I have little of.

FYI - The JST connector is a JST JWPF series.

There is a trick. Inside the body there is a small plastic tab. You have to gently lift that tab JUST ENOUGH to here a "click" and pull the wire at the same time. Once you get it, then you will be able to do it no problem. FYI I uses a sewing machine needle. It's thicker than the hand sewing needle.

I'm glad you mentioned that about the JWPF series @roadie1389 . There are a few vendors in Plano I plan on reaching out to tomorrow, I think they are bulk suppliers but I'm wondering if they will put a variety pack together for me ‍

for any JST connectors you may need. If you are going to do more than a few -- get the crimp tool.

I use this with a craft needle and it's a breeze, no problem.

The optical visor isn't a bad investment for the $$. I use it all the time, and it has paid for itself over and over with less time and frustration spent on projects requiring close up sight. There's one at Harbor freight for $5 that also works - I can guarantee it will be one of the best $5 ever spent.

I just got my bike repainted and I damaged the damn JST pins for the rear turn signals when removing the fender. Would anybody happen to know what size the JST pins are? I see a ton of kits, but different sized pins. I checked the service manual and searched online for specs with no success.
