Dakota Digital Speedometer - Unit change

All,

I have a Big Dog K9 built 2008 with a Dakota digital Speedometer BD 140.
I want to change the units from mph to km/h.
I have downloaded the Manul on the Dakota website.

It looks like that I have to re-calibrate the speed when I change the units.
Is this true, or do I missread the instruction ?
