Dakota Digital Speedo?

Whats the process to get your actual miles on the Dakota? When I had my stock gauge changed out for fogging the dealer certified the mileage and they shipped it right out.

BDM worked with Dakota about 2 years ago to develope this speedometer. We installed two prototype units (one red, one blue the blue is much cooler) and had no issues with it at all. The 0-60 time is way cool, not that we tested that function on a company bike :D We never got any further in testing than just accumulating miles, I think we had about 500 miles on it when Dakota decided they did not want to support BDM with these speedometers and told us they scrapped the program. I guess everyone else exiting the market makes you reconsider things. We did not get as far as moisture testing or anything else so I can not speak to that but what little exposure I had to it was positive. We had some dealers trying to warn us and other saying they were great so it could go either way.

BTW- the stock speedometer on my 2006 Night Train fogs every time it rains, is washed or is just high humidity. BDM Autometer speedometers are worse than most but not the only bikes out there with issues.

Let Dakota program them but if you forget or they don't you can send it to me and I can program miles as well.

Later.

I ordered one of these last week after a "thumbs up" report from one of our members-although they are out of stock for a couple more weeks. They told me they would program the odometer for $20.00 as stated above. If you order online-there will be a place for "comments". If you want yours programmed-write in that space your phone number and for them to call you when the speedometer becomes available so you can give them current mileage on your bike at that time. I was told they are supposed to have the blue in a couple more weeks-red about two weeks after that.

If there quailtiy is no better then what is used on a AHI I wouldn't buy it, i've been trying to get a 07 Texas Chopper speedo and tach to work on a friends bike with no help from the dealer network of course or from Dakota. I'll admitt when the work they look cool and are easy to read but when they don't your SOL......

OK, the first thing I'd like to say is that we have never made anything for American Iron Horse other than the aftermarket stuff we are doing now. They had 3 companies make their stock units, Wire Plus, Thunderheart, and some French company I can't remember the name of.

While it is flattering that whenever you see digital, you automaticly assume it's us, it's not so great when it's a unit with such a bad reputation.

Even the units we make now are our off the shelf units. We just make a bracket and harness combo to allow you to bolt them onto the AIH.

Is this true Mike????

I've been to a few AIH dealers before I bought my bike and all of them said that the speedo was in fact Dakota Digital.

I've always liked the look and was detoured away with the problems that AIH was having. As a matter of fact I went as far as ordering one and cancelling the purchase because of what I heard.

If indeed what you're selling is the truth then I would reconsider an order.

What would be the cost for one that would be compatible with our dogs, Not that I'm looking it's just a question.

go easy here on the buying/selling aspect of this thread until "supporting member" status has been attained. JMHO.

That's the honest truth! We've never had anything to with their stock gauges at all.

Update
Was having trouble with the Bigdog speedo(needle bouncing) and was on my 4 or 5 one, so ordered DD speedo. Had it installed on 7-23-09, but one problem it was defective. It worked but would not cycle through the settings. Called DD and the were out. They put me on backorder for a new one. The gauge was stuck on the 2nd odometer (B). Well after a while 100/200 mile it speedo started to jump around like the BD one. It would sometimes be 10 mph over judging by my dads speedo. Well finially got the new one the other day. Was at local Bd dealer (a good one) getting my 20,000 mile servive and they put it on for me. Well dealer thought the problem with the speedo to begin with was the speedo sensor, but I bought the DD anyway, put the new one and and same thing, in neutral rev up and speedo jumps up to 20-30 mph. They installed a new speedo sensor and it fixed the damn thing. Probabley could of did this and not bought a DD speedo, but it is cool as hell. Put around 4500 mile on the first on from 7/23 to 9/3 and didn't have any problem with it other than the one I had with it to begin with. New one works great. Anyway DD told me when I called them about my first one that they had some that got out that were bad, no problem they replaced it. Was waiting to get all the info with the new one before I posted anything because if I got one here and said mine was bad the "HATERS" would eat it up and post a way.

Sorry Mike,
I did receive some bad intel about who supplied the speedo's
for AIH, and I offer you a public apology for the mistake. I tried to contact AIH several times concerning the speedo/tach and never received any answers so I contacted a local service center here in Myrtle Beach and was given the incorrect info concerning who the manufacture was. I have seen your product in several bike & hot rod mags and it all looks top notch and if my wallet ever recover's from this fallen economy I will consider upgrading my stock HD units with one of yours in blue......
