D and M air cleaner

Ordered a D and M Spike air cleaner from local shop. Got a good discount however.
The spike has arrived but the monting plate and breather kit is on backorder. Have been waiting 5 weeks and just found out it will be at least another month. Will another brand fit the spike or does anyone know of another brand of comparable quality? I ordered the " twisted " spike and haven't seen them anywhere else.

my twisted ONLY works in the up pos. performance.......ok, looks.............bad ass!!!

 Why only in the upright position? I always wondered why you guys had it installed that way. I have had mine in the horizontal position
and never had any problems.

Ok, so you guys say these spike or cone air cleaners rob you of power, but how much are you talking? I am interested in one cause I think they look bad ass, and I expressed my concerns with the guys at the shop, after reading through threads and seeing where people had said this, and they came back with this:

"The cone type air cleaners are among the most free flowing of the air cleaners. They are not restrictive at all. Re jetting is required on most air cleaner changes and almost always when you change the exhaust system, Re jetting is an easy procedure for us and does not take very long. No worries there."

So again, if you re-jet it properly, what sort of HP loss are you really talking about because I can hardly hold on now without my ass being sucked off the back of my dog!!!

I lost 5 HP and was hard to tune right. They are not free flowing as its all marketing. What else are they going to say. Buy our spike filters because they suck. Not good for sales. I cut mine off at the elbow and slide on a K&N filter. Now im good.

Like I said I never had any problems. I have a big air carb PSI and that with the spiral was fine tuned Ok. Do not know if I lost any HP, but if there was a little loss, I do not mind trading that for the cool look of the D&M spiral. Again to each his own.

I bought one used on this forum. I am probably not going to use it. (changed mind on look for my bike)

It is chrome with the black diamond cut bullet.

I have $225 in it. I will let it go for that plus shipping. It has the mounting bracket and I think all the hardware. You would need to get new gaskets.

Can you upload a pic or give a model number I can see online somewhere? I want the "Bullet" style one as I think that more of a rounded nose matches the ends of the forks on the front of my pit, and I am a bit :loony: like that.

From what i understand the cone air filter is ok .But the Chrome spike is the restricting part.. It covers up too much of the filter. The dual spike "sweet by the way" isn't a problem because it has twice the air flow.. and vertical the air flows more directly in to the filter..
I had the spike (horizontal) and on the X way 75-80 every once and a while i will get a hiccup. doing some insurance repair now and the spike was scratched so i picked up the S&S dual runner :2thumbs::2thumbs:

If anyone wants to part away with their D&M swirl, let me know. I am looking for another one so I can add it to the one I already have!
