Hi all.
I have an 08 Mastiff EFI. Its been in storage for a year but started a few times with no issues. Battery was on a tender. I had replaced the PCM a few years ago with one of Axles.

I got it out and started it up (cranked it for a few seconds before it started). Rode for about 2 miles and pulled up to a set of lights. It died and wouldn't restart. I was able to crack it a few times with no luck, then got the starter clicking and tach lights flashing.

I figured it was the battery, so put in a new one (there was an autozone across the road from where I pulled over). Installed it. It cranked well but still no start.

Got a ride home and came back with tools. Multied battery 12.4v off and the put my small booster pack on and re cranked. Strong but no start. Even sprayed a bit of ether just to check. No start.
Pulled a plug and grounded it, cranked and still no spark.

Any ideas? I understand ill drain the fuel just incase (it had stabilizer in it). Just seem weird that it would be running fine, then die and have the spark disappear.

I would look at the crank sensor, I have a 07 bulldog and I have done everything buit change that. I am looking to order now and hope it fixes the problem. You probably have two breakers under the left side cover that trip when bike gets hot. After about 15 minutes will start right up and run good for about 5 miles then get hot and engine shuts down. I have been reading on this site for efi problems and found a bunch of info.

This is with key on, a spare spark plug connected but outside meaning to watch the spark. The crank sensor has a window that sweeps past it. There's a pin hanging down out of the sensor. Turn the crank so that window or other tip that will sweep past the sensor's protruding pin is more or less lined up or close to it. With a flat blade screwdriver, kind of toggle the blade so you make/break contact with the sensor and then look for spark at the spark plug.

That's a cold setting. Key off, grab the old lady's hair dryer and heat the crank sensor this side of melting it. Check to see if it sparks when hot.

Cold and sparks the plug, not the c/s
Hot and sparks at the plug, not the c/s

Cold and no spark, might be the c/s

Well after a lot of diagnosing we got her sorted. Had a faulty EHC when then corrupted the ECM file. So replaced the EHC and installed a new base map on the control module, she now runs like a beast!!! Better than ever actually.

Huge thanks to Kapt America for guiding me through all this. You're a true asset to the Bigdog Community.
