I don't know what the heck is going on. Dave spoke to Arin again and he told him he doesn't even carry hiems. :zwhistle:

Looks like heims on this one...

I ordered WI shift linkage from Nelson. It does not fit. Instead of heim joints, it came with ball joints and studs. The front stud is way too short. Even if I overcame that problem,I do not think the linkage will clear the case, and may not clear the cylinder.
I think you have WI linkage on your bike, and I remember some posts about these issues. I did a search and could not find them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
That is what I have heard... strange cause mine came with heims. As I have voiced in posts. Chopper dave order some stainless steel heims from mccaster and linked in some thread. They were only like $11 each. Both right handed thread.

As far as it clearing the cylinder. this is a common problem with the big tire bikes. You can get chrome spacers from your local hardware or Ace. Space it out at the tranny and you'll be good to go. But you will also need a new bolt. I had Dave order that from a chrome bolt. Cause locally we couldn't find the 5/16-24x1.5" in a chrome button head allen.

You can see Dave's and the spacer on the tranny with the temp bolt in it.

Hope it helps.

Sorry about the inbox issue.
Thanks for the info. Unlike the linkage on Dave's bike, my linkage is fitted with ball joints pressed into the front side (at the front end) and into the rear side (at the rear end). Even with spacers, I don't think the linkage is going to clear the case unless the shift arm on the tranny is lengthened.
Kinda sux, because I waited 3 months to get it as "custom made" for my bike.

If it was custom made, You would have thought that they would have tapped it with left and right hand threads so that the factory heims would screw right in!!!

I think what I am about to find out is that the "custom" part of the linkage is the length, and that's it. Since it is fitted with ball joints, the length has zero adjustment. Nelson wants me to take pics so WI can see what the problem is.

Yeah .. what I'm hearing is that its the length that they will cut "custom" as needed. Some styles don't have heim joints on the end ( Skid's ) so the flexibility part is difficult. Once we find out what Arin says on Skid's setup we'll know more. Sounds like the "build time" that I thought was messed up for us on yours was the same thing that Dave dealt with !! :loony:

So the ball jts aren't removeable??? Spin those out and spin in some new heims?

And Jake... not sure why but he (arron at WI) only does right handed threads on everything. Probably easier for parts...

yeah that sucks skid! I don't understand why they would put ball rod ends on a linkage that takes heim's:confused: I told Arin that all Big Dog linkages have the heims on them....and thats when he said anything custom cut won't come with the heims....no biggie......get some good stainless ones like I got!:whoop:

Gas, the ball joints appear to be pressed in. Unlike a heim which is threaded into the end of the linkage, these are pressed into the front and rear of the linkage. This configuration affords no adjustment to length. Stated another way, the ball joint/stud for each end is affixed 90 degrees to the linkage.
The length is not a problem because it is "custom." The height of the linkage causes it to make contact on the case on the bottom, and the width of the linkage probably would cause it to make contact with the cylinder.

To make it fit, it looks like the shift arm on the tranny would need to be extended to raise the linkage above the case, the linkage would need to be shimmed to get clear of the cylinder, the front ball joint would need to be replaced with one with a much longer stud, the cone spacer would need to be replaced with a longer version, or some additional spacers would need to be added. So much for a "custom fit."

I would send that shit back to WIcked Image and have them make it right......you paid good money for it.....call Arin.....
when I got mine...I thought I had a blemish in mine......I was going to send it back to them....but come to find out it was in the plastic wrapping....not on the chrome...and Arin told me if mine didn't fit to call him......mine fits great....just had to get that chrome spacer as shown in my pic....my nice chrome bolt will be here tomorrow

Yeah the ball jts are the problem... everythign else can be worked around.

Secondly, they should come with heims like mine did less than a year ago!!

Finally, this just goes to show you, like above my avatar says....
