Wild Steed Worx has been asked to look into a replacement for our handlebar switch curcuit cards on the all the 04 and up BD bikes.
One of our members here just did this modification and did a lot of work cutting, welding, shaping and polishing to replace his switches. I must say he did a great job. :2thumbs:

Curtis and I have been brainstorming this for the last few days and think we have a solution that would fit all of our needs with minimal modifications required. You can send your control housing to WSW for modification or you can modify your covers to fit the custom plate with minimum required work.
I'm adding a poll here asking for your input on what you think about our idea.

What we are thinking of doing is making a cover plate for both side switch overs. It would be very flush to the unit you have now. Similar to the plate on the top of the front master cylinder:

Within this plate we would place probably four switches. Turn signal, horn, hi/lo beam on one side and run/off, turn signal and start on the otherside. All of these switches would be pre-wired to plug right into your current wire harness with mimimal fuss. They would all be 5v switches so it won't interfere with your EHC. The plates would be highly polished to fit flush with your controls and you would hardly notice it there and it will be sealed.

We are sourcing buttons now but here are some of the mild to wild switches we've seen so far are below:

Simple plain switch

Nice chrome switch

An expensive "touch" activated switch. This is going on mine!!! :D

Anyway, please help out by voting in the poll or add your comments below telling us what you think. We are all ears right now researching this. Keep in mind that replacing your curcuit cards currently on your bike is going to relatively expensive also.

Hoping to have a set on my bike to show off in Sturgis.

Anyone with a wireplus would only need 3 momintary contact switches on each side since the high/low and on/off toggle.

The touch activated is pretty cool, but I would rather have the push button in CHROME.
Now if the touch activated came in chrome count me in.

"touch activated switch" is that you just have to touch it but dont have to physically push it down?

Could a switch like that be too sensitive and trigger itself somehow? large gust of wind or nailing a good jarring pothole.

Don't know till I test it I guess but they are expensive!!! They are rated with a life cycle of 20,000,000 cycles.

The standard plate will have tactile type buttons, you can feel them pressing back as you push the button in. Ray is pushing the limit with the Piezo switches and if they work they will be available but, as Ray stated above, they will be expensive.

Do you guys have a drawing of what you're thinking about? I'm not sure if you're talking about modifying the switch covers like JesusJoe did or if you're thinking about adding a cover on top of the existing cover... or both?

Cover plate
The existing control housing will have to have the inner portion removed and our plate will mount over the top. While I applaud JesusJoe for his work our installation will look nothing like his.
I won't release any images until we are ready to go in to production, just the way it is in this business. That should be fairly soon though as Ray and I believe that these will be a big seller and help a lot of BD owners out.

Why not come up with the complete kit with instructions to eliminate the EHC, WP and PDM?
We've been looking into this using Thunderhearts module and even a total rewire but it's just not looking cost affective to us right now. And we have these other projects we are trying to get production going on. We'll keep looking into it though.

Thanks for thinking of use

I would still rather buy it from you even if the cost was more. Delivery and support would be so much more reliable that it would be worth it. Poll?

I believe Jesus Joe blazed this trail.

I'll be looking forward to what you two come with.

No question JesusJoe blazed it, everyone has been thinking it but he definitely pulled the trigger.

We are seriously working on a complete replacement kit but it takes a while to work larger projects like that out.

Thinking about it now, Lee had something similar done to his controls a few years ago but I don't think he posted much detail on it, his mechanic did the work I believe. Maybe Lee will pop in and share some pictures of his set up...

And I was just busting balls. :D
