Custom Handle Bars

I didn't want jwolfs weber thread to keep getting jacked so here's a place I found that will make anything you want handlebar wise. I have talked to them about our bigdog special 1-3/16 dia for the controls and he said that would be no problem here's a look at what they can do.

Depending on what you want though you may have to extend your wiring and, of course your control cables.

I'm wanting to add about 10-12 inches of height to my bars so, I'll have to do both.

Anyone know of a guy to make custom braided cable swapouts for our current cables cheap???

Just started looking into adding between 4 and 6 inches to my 04 Chopper. From what I could tell from talking with a local service manager, the wiring would be the issue that needs to be extended. That was for the 4 inch rise though on mine. Gas and I were just talking about that yesterday.

To avoid going with new hardware on the bars, I'm thinking of either using the Ridgeback bars that have more of a pull ... or just adding a custom riser to mine. That way you keep the clean look of the BDM hardware.

That being said, switching to "standard" bars opens up a hell of a lot of opportunity on Grips, Wiring, Hydraulics ...etc. Think its a "Cost vs PITA Factor" thing

If you don't keep your controls you're going to get into BIG money on this thing though. Correct me if I'm wrong but, won't a new set of controls cost upward of 1,000.00 alone?

My option would be extend the wiring, buy new braided cables and buy new bars that are the right size for the current controls. IMHO.

I have been looking for some bars as well. Question is will standard controls such as harley or aftermarket for 1" bar wire up to our bikes.
If so seems like we would have lots of options and the wiring would tie in under the tank?

Anybody know?

I think you're on the money there. That's one of the problems I was looking at with mine. Not 100% certain (the bike's not with me at my office) but I think the clutch and brake res assembly may be directly attached on the BDM.

Are you talking about the handlebar controls? If so they are two piece just like HD's. I've changed out my bars and grips before and they come right apart. The wiring and cables would have to be extended but shouldn't be to hard.
Here is a pic of the throttle side and the second is the underside of the clutch cable control.

BDM makes them proprietary by making them 1 3/8" vice 1 1/4" I think.

Oh I see you point now. No, it's all one piece with reservoir molded in.
When they came out in 04 I didn't like them but now I'm partial to them. Just need to get them chromed. Tired of polishing!

THAT'S going to be the issue here with going "custom" on the bars. I think it could be an "all or nothing" thing. Had me thinking I was nutty there for a second (don't offer an opinion there Gas Man) ... but that's one of the reasons I was looking at swapping with the Ridgeback setup ... or using a riser.

Yeah, same with the guys that want to re-wire to remove the EHC. You would need all different controls and bars plus wiring and maybe cables and new tach and speedo JUST on the handlebars!

Nelson, actually I did both. I also have an 04 chopper and I swapped out to a set of ridgeback bars and a set of 1'' risers. I also used a ridgeback wiring harness for the handlebar controls because they are longer and had no problems. But I still would like a little taller bar.

Alhall88, did you do the spacers yourself? Or just cut off a piece of pipe. I need to get the longer harness, my wiring is stretched thin. And I would like to put those spacers on mine.

Ray ....I can price out the Ridgeback harness for you if you decide to go that route.

Alhall88 .... how tall are you ? I'm 5'11" and running the 2.5" forward setup. If you're thinking that you need more rise on the Ridgeback that's good to know for me. Thanks!

NO. The HD controls won't fit the fatter bars and all the switches inside the BDM are circuit boards vice HD style switchs. Also, the BDM is the low voltage system. No matching up of the HD and BDM harness'.
