15 days till I leave for Sturgis and the Ultra is giving me an issue. Went to crank and I got Click click, so went and got a new battery and the next day click click. Put it on a charger for 24 hrs . Room room. Waited the next day and checked it with a volt meter 13.1 volts cranked right up. Waited then 3 days then checked it. Same thing. Waited 4 days and click click! Have 13.1 volts. Tapped the starter with a wrench fucker cranked up. So I’m thinking starter issue. So I replaced the starter. Got it together and cranked up @12.9 volts. 4 days later checked battery 13.1 volts and click click!! FUCK!!!! Tapped starter... cranked up!! I bought a slam button last yr from Curtis but it’s to big for my H-D starter. Have tried to email Curtis 2 times today but the email gets kicked back!! I don’t want to get stranded in Sturgis and I desperately need a slam button on this bike!!!

check this out, not sure if yours is a top or side mounted post but this is what I have and have had really good luck with them. They have outlasted some of the more expensive starters that I have used

Talked to Marky Marc, Curtis’s web site host company is down. With just purchasing a new starter I looked up Spykes.com and ordered a slam button from them, with 2 day delivery it is $91.00. I’ll still get with Curtis and exchange the one I got from him for one that will fit my Bigdog. They make 3 different slam buttons and my H-D and Bigdog use the same slam button size

Hell, I've used a simple piece of wire or my other keys to start my BMC when I had starter issues way back when.
Short piece of wire and a pencil some electrical tape and bam -- tape wire to pencil to make it easier to hit the starter contact!

Glad you got it figured out! Have fun at Sturgis! You bringing both bikes?

Hey Jonathan, get your battery load tested, certainly could be your issue.

When you say tapped I presume you mean hit it with a wrench.
If it spun at that point and this has happened with 2 starters, I'd pull the primary cover and watch/check the jack shaft.
And make sure while on the trip to park at the TOP of a hill!

Fair enough
I pulled the new battery and brought it to the industrial battery shop we use. Under load it has 245 amps and 12.4 volts after 15 seconds of load. That’s way more than what is required. Harley says 170 amps at 11.9 volts after 15 sec on full load

Till ya get the new slam button, you could just drill a 5/16" hole in the solenoid end plate , and carry a short piece of 5/16" dowel rod to stick in there and push the plunger like the slammer would do.

I bought a digital load tester a few months back thing is sweet as hell. My truck battery died on me and when I set to just 500cca on the tester it showed only 30%. Battery was supposed to have 810cca and had a tender on it but was flashing Red saying battery issue.

I checked my Braille off the k9 at 500cca it hit 425cca and it hasn't been on a tender for a few months
