For my long trip I was worried about having a throttle lock. While I looked at the "50 boys" I just didn't want to spent the $300 bucks for that thing.

While I was at the Cabbage Patch in Daytona I ran across this new company that made throttle locks using your existing parts.

Installation

So, I had him put this on my bike. He had to remove the hand control and bore out the existing lock to a larger size then install this ratcheting lever. To provide tension you push the locking handle forward and if you need more tension then you pull it down and ratchet it back and you now have more leverage.

It worked really well on my trip and allowed me to rotate my hands to warm them on the rockerbox's as it was as cold as 32 degrees.

Cost me $80 and is very much worth it.

Did you re-tap it? Is it that simple? What size tap and drill? Easy to dis-engage it?

Yes, as I stated they had to remove and re tap. Don't know what size but works very well.

Cool. Thanks for the info Ray. I'll check with my Big Dog dealer to see if they can do this for me. Don't want to try it on my own! Cruise is something I do NOT need to have screw up!

KnotSo, It took him about an hour to do it and when I was at his tent he had about 4 guys lined up behind me.
On a side note when he was doing mine he lost one of the little brass ferrels for the end of the cable and didn't say anything. I didn't notice it until my ride home but I ended up having to go up to the dealership to get another brass ferrell.
But all's well now...

Those can be elusive little buggers - but how could you even work the throttle without the ferrell in there?? I would think you would feel it bind up.

They will go just fine until you snap the throttle really hard or let off fast. My dipshit buddy rode around for six months knowing his farrel was missing. Almost everytime we rode and raced it would come loose. :loony:

Yea, it was on the return cable, first one counter-clockwise on the throttle control. I knew something felt wrong but I just figured I would take it apart and fix it when I got back to my RV.
