Energy One
I got the o ring in for the carb yesterday, got it in place today (still a wee big too big it seems but that's what S&S sends) and got everything back together as far as I know. Letting the battery stay on the trickle charger all night then tomorrow I'm going to replace the plugs and see what happens. Hopefully everything fires up and it runs so I can try tuning the carb this time without the crud in the intermediate jet screwing everything up. I stepped up the jets to S&S's basic tuning guide range, and what Curtis recommended of a .031 and a .074.

Well I decided to try and fire it up tonight. With the new Champion plugs installed, the new inline fuel filter in place and a clean carb with S&S factory settings on the new jets, it fired right up. I blipped the throttle twice, pulled up the enrichener, started it and immediately turned the enrichener back off and it sat there and idled just fine. It ever so lightly popped a time or two and just sat there and idled like it's supposed to. It did fluctuate a tiny bit here and there it sounded like on RPM but it definitely starts and idles WAY better than it used to. I didn't notice any fuel spraying out anywhere or anything so the new fuel line is on securely and the clamps are tightened appropriately. I must have gotten some oil/grease/goop on one of the exhaust pipes as that was smoking off a little bit but tomorrow (if I have the energy) I'll air up the tires just to make sure they're good and take it for a spin around the block to warm it up and then tune the carb to my liking and see what happens. I'll also get to see if I adjusted the clutch properly too lol

If it's got wheels or a bra it will probably cause you problems, although both are fun to play with...at least the wheels don't get pissed off if you play with a different set...just kidding!
These bikes are all a little finicky! It's part of the experience, tuning them and getting them just so...seems like as soon as you do something else comes up. But there really isn't much like them and for all the bikes I have owned, few give me the smile I get riding them, or the looks from others when i cruise by. Now I hope to have a few more BDM's in the garage some day.

I had to bring the idle down just a little bit and tweak the idle mixture screw but it idled great, ran great, the throttle seemed a little more consistent and predictable (but that could be because I lubed the throttle cables as well). I'm probably going to take her out again later on and do a little parking lot practice when the traffic on the highway just down the street from me starts slowing down.

The clutch also seemed just fine. The adjustment didn't really make shifting any easier as it wasn't hard before and neutral is about the same to find, at least when parked and shut off. I'll see if neutral while it's running is easy to find later on.
