Cross country riding

For all of you adventurous non trailering type of guys, where do you stay for sake of motorcycle safety?

I an looking at moving from Michigan to eastern tn and although my stubbornness says I can make it in a day... I am not so sure about my ass. Car riding vs motorcycle riding is totally different and I would rather not use the highways. Too many idiots texting

Park it right near the front door under lights. You can get a long bicycle cable and run it though both wheels.

You must be young. I don’t think my old ass can take 4hrs straight riding. Personally I think a trailer is the best bet all around. At least if it breaks down you call U-Haul. Don’t know if you been to Tennessee but it’s like a roller coaster ride! Lol! Safe travels & cheers to getting out of Michigan! :cheers:

I've done SC to AR several times and NJ to SC before I moved.
I just opt for a decent hotel, park in well lit area where you can see bike from room.
Lock bike up, on road trips these days I use a XENA brake lock with alarm.
Trust me, you don't want to be the idiot that sets it off and I wake up.
It could be a scary sight starting with me most likely in my underwear, and of course my little friend that would dissuade all but the truly stupid.
Never had an issue.
Cable is good, especially if you can anchor it to something fixed. Concrete barriers for paking are good when they aren't attached to the ground if you can slip you cable thru the hole to attach to ground and loop back bike.
I also make sure the night shift knows what I'm riding and that no one else should be messing with it.

Winnie. I've made the outer banks from here, a couple times, in less than two day.

Although we are exactly the same age... the damage done from years in the military jumping out of planes & helicopters has taken its toll. The 3 discs fused in my neck has helped my situation but it’s still a rough ride over a couple hours. A hour on my bike is the best therapy I know.

When I travel I always get a ground-floor room that I can pull my bike into for the night. And when traveling across country I always take the highway and just make sure I’m not close to anyone and that includes on my side whenever possible

Agree with Rottweiler regarding well lit area near the front door where the night staff can see it. In addition, like JBM said, I make the staff aware that no one should be messing with it. Parked outside of hotel in Somerset KY.

Wow! That bike is just amazing! I think I am addicted to BigDog motorcycles. Lol!

Kyle, that sounds like a nice trip. As far as the riding portion of your trip is stay off the highways they suck as you do not have time to look and enjoy the ride. When riding I do anywhere from 200-300 miles per-day. I usally stay at well know hotels which offer free breakfast and just out side of town. most of these types of places let you park right in front under there covered area, and if you do not have a cover for the bike get one, it helps as people seem to ignore the bike more often then not. As far as the travel portion I do 80-100 miles (secondary roads are much slower and more enjoyable so this normally takes about 2.5-3 hours to do), stop to fuel both the bike and body, stretch and walk around some. This is normally for me about 30-45 minutes, then back at it. I know some members on here do ride further in a day and I know some on here do that and god bless them. But I do enjoy the rides I do, no hurry and and do get there feeling really good. There is a lot to see and I do not want to miss a damn thing. Good luck on your ride.
