covering grips

So I tried the flextape as a grip cover -- works pretty well so far.

This was a TEST so I did not remove the rubber from the grip first so it did not apply completely smoothly. I'll ride it for a bit in the heat before I decide if this is a permanent fix, then I'll cut the rubber off and reapply the flexseal tape.

Ok, my grips are worn, and the rubber is breaking down. My hands end up filthy because of it.

As I said this was a TEST, that's why I didn't cut the rubber yet. I was concerned with the feel, the heat maybe messing with the adhesive etc.

Thought about the leather as well, but it turns out this provides a little more tack/nonslip to the grip -- need to see how it works in rain.

Thought about the radiator hose routine as that worker perfectly for the pegs, and I may try that but I was trying not to increase the size (diameter) of the grip and getting the hose over the flare on the end looked like it be a PITA.

Dent -- I'm retired and not even on a fixed income -- I'm on a broke income -- I'm always BROKE, would love someone to "fix" my income!

Mike,

I've been retired 3 months now and have been spending more money than what comes in......so, I've got to figure out what to do with my toe shifter. I want to keep my pegs as original as possible and previously just bought new ones. The brake side rubber is fine so I don't really want them to not match. I had a left grip where the rubber broke down and while I was still working just bought a new set.

I feel your pain. Decisions.....decisions. :):chopper:

You could always try using that spray on bed liner, then you could lightly coat it or build it up to your liking. To me the bike ain't ever going to be worth what you think its worth, so the 3F's is the direction I take. Maybe try it on a toilet paper roll and let it get hard to get the feel for the diameter.

What they tell you ya need and what you really need for retirement are 2 completely different things. I believe key is going into retirement debt free, yes I'm an authority on that also:oldhardlaugh:

Send them to me and I'll do them like I did Big Daddy's, for less than a new set would cost you.

My wife came up with the idea of using 'tennis racquet tape'.... good grip; not messy; and has some cushion to it too. I like them :)

I consider good bicycle wrap as well (not the crap in walmart -- stuff serious cyclist use).
Who knows what the final results will be. I know it will not be replacement grips when all the other alternatives I'm looking at are cheap to do in compairision.
