I just got my Feb copy of Hot Bike and this coupon was on page 25:

they have been running these ads in MC publications for quite a few months and they keep extending the coupon expiration date (note that this one is clear out to 4/13/12).

I am looking to buy one of these (since the price is so good) but thought I would ask some questions on the forum about them.

1. How many of you are using this exact model (item #91764)?

(I think our member, Dale4713 has one. Dale is yours this exact same model?)

2. How many modifications did you have to make?

3. How big of box did it come in (will it fit in a car) and was it difficult to assemble?

4. How easy is the jack to work when lowering and lifting?

5. What problems have you had?

I would really appreciate any input and if any of you would like a coupon, I think I have a few still-good ones in my MC rags that I could send you (or you could pic up a copy of Hot Bike). Or you could probably just print the one shown in my thread!)

I know there have been a lot of lift posts but I couldn't find all my answers in them. (and besides I wanted to share the info about the coupon).

Thanks,

Shovelcowboy:cheers:

I have had one for about 6 months. Had to weld on a 14" extension for the ridgeback. Also had to replace the chock and drill a couple more holes up front to use with straps. It has worked well without any issues. The box is large and will require at least an SUV to fit it in. Its also pretty heavy. The foot pump works well and requires about 50 pumps to lift the table completely. Much nicer working on the bike on a table. Well worth $300 (which is what I paid for it). I recommend it. Good luck.

Moog, how is the stability with the added 14" on the lift?

That's a hell of a price, I wish I had the tools to weld an extension on it and I might consider it!

I'm seen a few good tables on here but not sure I'm ready to put a table lift in the garage yet. Still renting, so at some point when I buy I still gotta move everything.

FYI, I am not welding a 14 inch extension for my Ridgeback. I'll get one that works out of the box. Plus, an ATV lift works fine. I do have my eyeballs on a Sears brand but my HF works great.

I have the HF lift and mine is a bit different than that one shown, the model I have is the 94121 in which I don't see on the HF site anymore. If you own a pro street type scoot, no modifications are required however, if you own a choppa style scoot you'll have to lengthen it for the scoot to fit on. Mine was on sale for $419 at the time, but I also went in with a coupon and dropped the price down to $320. If you ask me the money was well worth it. I haven't had any problems out of it what so ever and have owned it about a year and a half now. My back is thanking me every time I work on the scoot.:D

Shovel as for your questions, based of what I have:
Q1. How big of a box did it come in (will it fit in a car) and was it difficult to assemble?
A1. Box was a tad bit over 7 1/2ft long and 2 3/4ft wide. The thing was virtually fully assembled. The only assembly needed was to install the ramp, tire clamp and tire stop. Minimal effort.:2thumbs:

Q2. How easy is the jack to work when lowering and lifting?
A2. Very easy to pump up, a little touchy coming down just takes a little practice on how hard you step on the pedal.
Q3. What problems have you had?
A3. No issues to date and I use it a lot. Utilized by both the Dog the Harley and the lawn mower ect...:D

I've been thinking about this lift all morning, and I think if you add another 14-16" if there are even any stability concerns I would seriously consider just grabbing a couple pieces of 2x4's and running a piece of 1" threaded rod or steel pipe on the front and the back of the lift. This would fix the stability issue as well as provide piece of mind for locking the lift out at the top of its range. I would feel much more comfortable with that there if I was going to leave my bike up while working on it over the span of a few weeks.

With that in mind, $300 + an extra $10 for the rods you have a sweet piece of equipment!:whoop:

I have not had any stability issues with the extension. I extended the rear and the way the lift rises, it would only be out of original balance at the very top - not where I usually work. That said, I have raised it all the way and it still will not tip. If I tried to tip it with all my weight (330ish) on the extension when the bike is on it, I could probably do it, but I would literally have to try to do it. Won't tip by accident.

Nukeranger - not that hard to weld the extension if you weld at all.

Yeah, I can weld but I am too lazy to spend the time doing it. I would get this one and be done with it!

Kendon Chopper Lift

Pricey but if you consider your time it might be worth it. Plus, your significant other can purchase this for XMAS, B-Day, Anniversary, etc.:D

I've looked at harbor freight and it just looked kinda cheap compared to the direct lift or kendon. Also wanted one that would work right from the start. Didn't want to have to modify it to make it work. Went with the direct lift cause I was given a deal I couldn't pass up. No matter which one you get you'll be glad you got it. Makes working on your pup so much easier.

I've got no concern on tipping, do have to move wheel chock back for Harley. Extension took about 20 mins to build and weld on. I put some pics of mods on here but don't know how to attach. As far as balance there is not much weight on front of chopper, motor and tranny are close to same distance from rear wheel as on any other non chopped bike. I move bikes around shop in lowered position all the time. That looks to be same model as I have.

Great lift for the money. That's what I paid for the same lift about 3 years ago from Harbor Freight.. If you need it, buy it. Like others have said, its a bit short for a chopper, but works great on a shorter bike without having to modify it. When I sold the bike, the lift went with it so I ended up buying a PRO-SERIES 1500lb.lift. More than long enough. Came with two 12" side extensions, (4ft.total width) and a 1000lb. service jack along with some other nice features. Check it out at www.proseriesequipment.com, Model PSE TCMLW. Have a few pics, but not that great.

There will always be better ones for alot more, but bang for the buck, you can't beat that price if its long enough for your bikes. You can always do some add ons, for way less than some of the other brands.

Hey All, I really appreciate all the input and info. It is helping me out a lot on making a decision.

Since two of you have mentioned other Harbor Freight models (and I know they use to sell 3) I went on their site and I only see the one on the coupon I posted. Does anyone know if the other two are still available? (I think BBChopper and Brew have those other models)

I especially appreciate the links to mods that have been done. Welding on mods is no problem for me.

Thanks, Shovelcowboy

I can send some photos if you like, but basically we welded some heavy angle iron to each side and then used flat stock to fill in the area between the angle iron in the extension covered by expanded steel. I am sure you could use diamond plate but it would cost more. I think we ran about 10" of the angle iron along the sides and welded both from the side and the bottom. The flat stock seemed to flex a bit at first but once its all welded together and the expanded steel is also welded on top, it stiffens it up nice. The expanded steel gives it a nice finished look. I still need to paint it to match.

I have the model 91764, have had it for two years with no problems. When I picked it up there was a warranty, think it was a 90 day unless you want the extended for more$$. I said that I may modify the lift, they said warranty still good even if it's modified. Never heard of that before. For the price it's a good lift, shame it's made in China.
