Mastiff gas tank leaks...Urggggg.!!!!

OK guys, I am starting to think Delly is right about these BD's..!!! My problems continue to mount. I just got home from pickng up my Mastiff after having a new front tire and a good 10,000 mile service. I walk into the shop, the owner greets me with this.."You know you have a gas leak"? I say no, not really. Well, he continues with a "come look at this..!!" So I go behind the counter and he shows me a place, under my left side tank, where the paint in bubbling up and coming off. Somewhere under the left side tank, gas is oozing out. Thank goodness it's under the tank and the paint that's ruined is not all that visible. I haven't had time to take the tanks off the scooter yet, but I expect to find a leaking welded seam under there somewhere. I'll get back once I have the tanks off and inspected. You guys put on your thinking caps and help me fix this problem, but I don't see it being a quick fix.!!

Could be a leaking bung plug. may just need some teflon tape and put back in. sorry to hear your luck.

That would be nice, but I don't think that's it. I still haven't taken the tanks off yet, but after some further investigating, it appears to be coming from the inner seam on the left half tank. I'm not so upset about the tank leak as I am the paint being ruined.!! Money...money...money...!!
I hope I can find someone local that can reproduce this fantastic BD paint job. I doubt I can afford BD doing a repaint.!
Gosh, I can see some major OT for this old Hippy.!!!!

Get some of that JB Weld gas tank repair.... if you don't see it... mix up some of that, and put it on there... D.O.N.E.

You can also use MarineTex which is structural epoxy and can be used on wet surfaces.

I've searched the JB Weld website, but can't find a specific product for gas tank repair. Are you talking about the regular JB Weld for fixing this leaking seam in my tank?????

:zz2cents: I think you should contact Big Dog. Tanks shouldn't leak, Maybe they would work with you! At the very least, they should be made aware of this issue!

The MarineTex is a white structural epoxy available at your typical boat store chains. I have fixed Gas Tanks, Engines, Transoms and more with this stuff. If you can rough up the surface a bit before mixing and applying it your leak will be gone. You can drill and tap his shit its is so strong, and dam hard to sand - you need to use a file to shape it first. I'll look for a link to the exact product.

Hippy, i had exact same thing happen to my mastiff. gas tank tab at rear of tank , rubber grommet cracked and had tank to frame contact. caused tab on tank weld to leak. tried EVERY gas leak repair (i work at auto repair shop) vibrations too much. kept popping off. Talked to my bike shop and they told me how to weld it.(lots of washing and drying - drying was done by tube hooked up to car exhaust) i too have paint damage under tank that is not visible -coated that area with black exopy (from gas tank repair kit) problem solved . Scared the hell outta me to weld that tank. but it came out fine.
