What should I expect to pay a M/C shop to install new tires (front and back) and wheel bearings on my 03 Husky? I will supply all parts so I will be paying for the labor only? I am trying not to get burned. Thanks,

John:2thumbs:

I carried just my rear wheel with old tire and the new tire to the local Harley shop, and they charged me $60 labor plus tire disposal fee, plus shop supplies fee, and wanted to charge me for balancing but I told them no. They didn’t have Dyna beads or anything like them. My valve stems are chrome bolt-in and don’t need to be changed, not sure about valve stems on the ‘03’s. They did check my bearings and said they were good. They had a sign that listed prices and it said a “fat tire” change (200 or larger) was $80, but like I said they only charged me $60. I had changed my front tire myself and I thought their advertised price of $80 was a bargain to change the rear. But I removed my own wheel and took it down in the car to make sure nothing was damaged by someone in a hurry that’s probably unfamiliar with Big Dogs.

I called the local Harley place and they refuse to do any work on a BD, to include tire changes. I was quoted $85 per tire from a generic MC shop. One guy refused to install tires that were not purchased from his shop.:bang:

Depends on the shop. My shop charges $25 per each for my tires, beads, & tube (spoke wheels) off the bike. Another guy across town does the same thing for 75.. Some shops prefer you to buy the parts from them and may bump up the labor to compensate.

Branded shops have turned me away for chrome or wide tires, but not because of the bike brand. Call around and feel them out, before buying. Some shops have pretty decent prices on tires, damn near to what I found on the internet.

Take it to a dirt bike shop, they have the tire machine but don't carry the big tires so are more than likely to change your tire out for you. Mine was $40 last time.

I take the wheel off the bike and bring an MC tire to my local National Tire and Battery Shop...no conflict since they don't work on bikes and don't order M/C tires. I bring the Dyna beads and they just toss 'em in for nothing. I give the Tech a 20 and it goes straight in his pocket. I'm in and out in 10 minutes.

Got a buddy that does the same thing at a Midas shop near him. Just look for an auto shop that does tires -- easy money for them and fast and cheap for you.
