06 k9. 40 miles from home went to start bike and had nothing. Couldn't even jump start. Found a parts store which sold me an interstate. Bike ran fine for about 80 miles then all hell broke loose. Doing 70 on interstate engine started popping violently, flamed exhaust, ran very rough. Only ran it a few miles to the next exit. Then aaa. Could that new battery install have cooked the ECM ? Thank in advance for opinions.

EHC could be cooked but the culprit maybe your voltage regulator. 05 & 06 had a recall for faulty voltage regulators. If you can check the voltage at the battery with the bike running and hot and see what your voltage is. You should also have either a circuit breaker or a 40 amp fuse in the wire coming from the voltage regulator to the battery somewhere near the battery box. The faulty VRs would get hot then short out and over charge the batter and fry the ehc. But if you have no/low voltage at the battery then the regulator may have shorted out and trip the circuit breaker or blown the fuse. Remember the VR may be fine when cold but when it heats up the buss bar will warp and short out and either over charge or not charge at all. Hope this helps!

Oh yea, never jump start these bikes unless it is an emergency and if you do be sure that the donor vehicle is NOT running.

My K-9 did the same thing as the EHC was slowly frying it's little internal switches and relays.

Pop, pop! bang....no ignition...glide to the side of the rode. Wait for a bit. switch on and off the ignition key...and maybe it runs bad a few more miles.
