compression reliefs ??

compression reliefs or releases ??

I searched the threads and although there were some regarding these , I did not get the answer I was hoping to get.

I had starting issues since I bought it a couple years ago and recently realized when I manually push down on the reliefs on top of the rocker boxes and then push start it turns over nice but only for a while then it happens again, I am selling the bike and would like to get it squared away before I do , can you keep them from sticking or whatever it is that's happening ??

If you haven't already done so, I would take the two green wires under the tank (Compression release wires) and crimp them together add a short piece of wire and run them to the Green wire on the starter. That should take care of that circuit failure. They are only active when you go to start the bike and the starter circuit will takes care of that. The Green wire at the starter is what kicks that starter so you should be good to go. I had a similar problem when I installed the WP, maybe bad connection or something along those lines. But once I connected direct to the starter I have not had that happen again and its been at least 4 years or better.

Agree with Carlos...however...mine turned out to be busted, as in they would not go down when power was applied directly. If you can push them down manually, and they stay down they are likely gunked up with carbon and/or totally toast. I ended up replacing them and doing exactly what Carlos said since my EHC was already gone.

I took the battery out and their is the two green wires coming from under the tank and they connect to a yellow wire I imagine that's what gives the power to the reliefs so do I keep the two greens and the one yellow twined together and connect them to the green on the starter of which comes off the ehc?

I took mine directly from under the tank. I unplugged them for the harness soldered them together along with a piece of wire (same gauge) and ran it to the green at the starter.

If the wires you found appear to be the green compression release wires coming from under that tank, then cut the wires from the yellow wire and fold the yellow wire up at the tip put some heat shirk on it so it wont short out or cause you other problems and go for it. You may want to apply power to the compression releases directly from the battery to see if they click off and on. If not you know what the problem is.

So I am guessing there is a ground wire for these as well, just tieing t hat in?

Hey Carlos ! I connected the two greens to the starter wire, I only have a wire nut on it for now, just wanted to make sure it worked out. I have to say your instructions and advise was precise and extremely appreciated , I put the battery in and it cranked over beautifully . I tried it around 10 times its great!! Not a good selling point when you have to push the releases manually, lol
