Compression Release failure

Energy One

The problem is for the guys who have the higher compression it is more difficult to start. Especially when they get hot. Now that I know that they are available i would opt for this instead of the electric set up. The Manual's are so easy. Open valve, Start engine easily, close automatically by just breathing on the throttle and away you go:D Anybody have them in there Dog?

:2thumbs: I installed manual reliefs and they work fine, just push down and start motor, they pop up with a slight flip of the wrist. And a lot cheaper also!:2thumbs:

Also what engine ya 107 or 117 (if it makes a dif) ?

And did you just cap off the wires under the tank?

Thanks. V

Broadband thanks for the links! To use the stock hole in the top of the cylinder head I believe we would use the 14mm long reach. The stock S&S has about 3/4" of threads that go into the cylinder head.

The picture of the 2 c/r that's in the picture broadband posted WON'T work in the center of the S&S heads as replacements. :bang:
S&S makes their own manual releases that will work. They look altogether different, and have the proper threads.
The ones in broadband's picture have 10 mm threads. they are a little tricky to install, as there's not enough combustion chamber thickness.
Also, metal push tops WILL burn your fingers more than you will believe, when used on a hot motor.

John won't the 14mm long reach work in the center of our heads in place of the existing electric release? I know the head would have to be machiend for the 10mm.

Never thought about the temp on the ole finger prints though :bang:

Yes, the metal ones will feel very hot on the fingers if you need to use them to start up a hot motor. I have seen pictures of CR's with a black knob that I assume was some kind of plastic. As far as the threads, yea, make sure they will fit before you try them for sure. The pics/links were just random google searches to give the idea of what is kinda required. Make sure you get what you need.... and will work.

FWIW, I would NOT mess with any compression release other than the S&S ones for the S&S heads. The threads in the heads are proud, and are very fragile. You can press the threads out by just over-tightening the releases.
If you think the TP rocker boxes vs. S&S is a problem, you ain't seen nothing till you try mix and match compression releases on S&S heads. :bang:

So, I have to buy this whole kit, which, is no 200.00, just to replace what popped out? I went to a local stealership, and that's what he was saying...here's what I found online, of course, his price was 309.00: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Cycle-Compression-Release-Electric-90-4915/dp/B000GVEF2C]Amazon.com: S&S Cycle Compression Release - Electric Kit 90-4915: Automotive[/ame]

Perhaps someone can give me a part number or something specific if it's possible to order the specific part?
