Completed 6" forward control extensions

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I got my cousin the fabricator to make up some custom brackets to move the forward controls 6" for my buddy(Postman).

This is the shape "Long Legs" was in before the install.

This is the custom kit: brackets, shift bar, new bolts, and extension for brake

Removal of factory bracket

New bracket install

Completed reinstall of the brake and line extension

And a much more comfortable "Postman"
I wish I could offer up these kits to everyone, but I am only the installer and unfortunately my cousin has an uncertain future since his company is going out of business. Hopefully, there are machinists on this forum that can take this and run with it for the forum members.

Is there any chance you could at least give us a template. I can make a set of those myself. I'd be willing to pay twenty or thirty bucks just for a template and some basic info on where you got the hose extension e.t.c.

Hey Kaptain, thanks to you I know how to post this kind of thing. What I did was do a mock up for him in plywood to determine where he would want the pegs, then I gave the plywood mockup to my cousin to make the plates and shift bar extension. His company is going out of business which means he will be hunting for a job soon and will not have access to the fabrication tools he currently has access to.
As for the brake extension, we went to a local shop that makes custon lines for any application and they made the extension in a matter of minutes.
Total for everything was about $250. I would be happy to give you a template of what we did, PM me your address or phone # and I'll see if I can't make it happen for you.
What year is your K9, this is a '08 we did the brackets for and I don't know what the years are that will be the same.

Hey Bow, the brake side is easy because of the plate but what did you do to extend the other/shift side being it's one piece?

Ray, as the photo shows on the tailgate of my truck, I made extension plates for both sides which bolted to the frame with countersunk bolts. Then the original brackets bolted to the bracket extensions instead of the frame. So with my way of doing things, both sides were easy. As a matter of fact, the shift side is the easy side since there is no brake lines to bleed. All the parts needed are in the photo on the tailgate.

Ahhh, that sounds good. Was just wondering if it looks as clean as the brake side but imagine it does. Good job overall.

Benny(Postman) was in a hurry to get out of here since we have a lot of bugs after dark, not to mention deer and it is a 45 minute ride home for him. So, I was bustin it to get him on the road after I finished the brake side.

Really nice work!!!!! Is it just me or does he sit in the middle of the seat!?!?!?!??!?! My ass if wayyyyy farther back on the bike on my ridgeback. Or is it because the fender is farther away from the tire on the soft tails that pushes everything forward? Just wondering cause something just don't look right to me!

I'm 6 '4" and now I feel really comfortable for the first time since I bought the bike. The only problem is now we need to change the angle of the shifter lucky Steve says he got it covered, it's nice to have a friend that has his knowledge

Yep, I didn't even think about that until you said something. I'm sure with that length, that there's interference with the down tube. Even with the 2" I had to cut the bolt back that attaches the shift rod to shift lever.

The Postman is 6'4" and I am 6'2 1/2". I put the 2.5" extension on mine and I am reasonably happy. When he sat down on my bike he still was not comfortable so we mocked it up with plywood to set the distance. Turned out to be 6" and I did a template which my cousin took and did the plates, and shifter rod. We got the brake extension and bolts locally and we were in business. I have been on the phone tonight with a fabricator and he will be discussing it with me on whether he would be willing to make more kits for you guys that are really tall. I am only trying to help you guys find a source for the kits and I will not be a part of it if I can make it happen. As I discussed with the shop, I do not know which bikes use the same forward controls as my '09 K9, that will be something you guys have to work out. I will post if I can make it happen for you guys.
