Why not just do things right...put on an open primary and be done with it.

I'm guessing an open primary doesn't allow for one just a solid sprocket like OEM. So it sounds like your just saying stick with OEM rather than add a compensator then as it relates to the crank sprocket. Nothing to do about an open primary..haha

Wonder what the open primaries for Harley's have actually.

It is right there. Chock absorber in power train. Helps to ease torque pulses on power train, thus making the life of starter, tranny, clutch and you (when riding slow speed) easier.
I suppose HD has used it on every model for last 30 years.
