Compensator spring

So I had to remove my primary cover on my 04 chopper to remove my starter the other day and found a small piece of a spring laying in the bottom of the cover. After removing the compensator spring cover I found the spring broken in two spots and three cracks in the spring. What the hell could have made the spring break. The nut that holds everything together was tight.

Bubba .... I have heard of those springs breaking.... they take alot of punishment as they are designed to absorb the initial drive impact upon acceleration or deccelaration..... for me it wouldn't be a huge concern I would just go ahead and replace the complete compensator sprocket unit.

Thanks for the info Five Five, after looking at the old sprocket I think the bolt may have been a little loose. I can see where the spring had moved around some. I just picked up the new spring today and im going to get my girl on the road again.
