collapse lifter nut

im confused, step 10 on the thread ajusting the pushrods. It says be sure to collapse the lifter nut not anything else. then it says once this is done. is the end of step 10 collapse the lifter nut. can someone help thanks

I think it means from the zero lash point, compress the lifters by tightening the pushrod. I go 24 wrench flats. Then wait 15 minutes or so until the pushrod turns by hand. This allows the lifter to bleed down and then do the others just like that. Be sure the piston is TDC before you adjust that cylinders pushrods.

If you go to S&S's cycles web site. You can down load the in structions for adjusting the valves per ther specs. Its listed under "pushrods"

step 10 refers to getting to the zero lash point. turn the nut on the pushrod until it lengthens long enough to not be able to turn by hand. this is zero lash. from that point tighten 18-24 wrench flats. the lifter will only compress 8 full turns. we want it in the middle and 24 is middle. 18 is ok to do to. After all that follow 11 and on. You need to do step 10 for each pushrod you do. Piston has to be TDC for the pushrods for that cylinder. maybe its just the wording but...

after you collapse the rods, lengthen them by hand till you get a slight drag while spinning the rod. basically just touching the tappet. this is zero lash.

lengthen the rod to, wherever you prefer, in the 1/2 way point of the tappets piston travel.

if you go to S&S's site make sure you dont follow directions for when hlt2 limiters are installed, as BD's dont come with them.
