Colder Plug in Rear Cylinder???

I read in other forums about how some have run one step colder plug in the rear cylinder than the front due to the rear cylinder running hotter than the front? what are the pro's and con's....anyone in the pound doing this?

I guess the only reason would be to keep the plug in good condition i.e. doesn't get damaged by the increased heat and so will last longer. My plugs don't usually look the same.
