Clutch still slipping, 09 mastiff

The dealer did my 2500 mile service last week and was supposed to have adjusted the clutch as it was slipping like this before.

symptom:
very hard acceleration, 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th (assume 5th to 6th), the clutch doesn't grab real good. after the shift and as sson as throttle is applied, I can even get the RPM to climb (clutch slip).

question:
Did BDM put a different clutch in the 09's? I know they advertise a much easier pull on the lever.

Can the dealer adjust the springs on the clutch or is this just too much torque for the stock 09 clutch? I take it in again on Saturday and need coaching on what to say to the dealer this time.

I figure if I get generous on the throttle that I will burn the clutch to shit in a hurry.

I have never done this on the dog, but this bike might not even do a burnout. (it might do a clutch burnout instead)

Normal shifts are decent with no hint of slipping.

They haven't been using springs. They use the diaphrams unless they went back to springs. But you may want to check out Bakers website to see if they offer a stouter diaphram.

I would just go with the Bandit Bruiser Clutch ... will give the dog more bite. The 117+ cu in motor is too much for the baker setup. I'm glad like the other bikers that I got r done. And there's enough info at this forum to walk you thru the process ... couldn't of done it without everyone's help. :D :whoop: :flag:

why don't you just try adjusting it yourself first? Assuming you haven't done any performance mods your stock clutch should not be slipping if its adjusted correctly. IMHO.

i'm not against upgrades or anything, but damn he's got an '09 with 2500 miles. It's not too much to ask that his stock clutch not slip.

have you tried the clutch adjust procedure how-to outlined on here? if your not going to, then simply telling the dealer your clutch is slipping as you've said should be enough for them to diagnose problem I would think. {sooner or later, your going to get familiar with this procedure if you like riding imo; midas well be now}

Iron Lightning is going to take it apart tomorrow. Matt says it has to be a defective part in it for this to happen.

I have no issues doing the adjustments and such myself. But it's brand new, an 09 and I paid for the warranty.

The only mod to it is the V&H BR exhaust with the rejetting. The stock clutch should hold.

Ya i hear ya, been there. I had to decide to have bike sit in dealer shop for a week waiting my turn to the lift I guess or say - tighten the clutch nut myself sort of thing. {shrug, after 2x of things like that I decided to hell with my principles on the warranty, rather ride...:D }

hope you get it sorted out...:cheers:

I have a 06 K9 and had 3 clutches installed under warranty and they never could get it to stop sliping on hard accel., after my warranty I ended up installing a KARATA open primary with the clutch he offers and has been great. I would stay on the dealer and make them fix.

fyi: The dealer put a totally new clutch in it today (Saturday) and it still slips. Dealer said they will keep it till Tuesday and talk to BDM about it.

Also, dealer says the 09 clutch adjustment procedure is totally different than the old one (like on here).

Might want to find a different shop. There is no reason you should have this problem with an 09. Yeah, down the road get a bandit, but while under warranty is a different story.

A clutch is not rocket science - It sounds like they are adjusting at the cable, but not getting the correct adjustment of the push rod first, or not locking down the push rod lock nut.... or you may have a bent push rod which would explain the same problem if they really did put in a new clutch.

But in fairness, I have not looked closely at an 09 set up to see what, if any, difference there is in design or adjustment.
