Clutch question for 05 chopper

My buddy picked up an 05 chopper the same week I got my bike.
He says he can't ride it because his clutch is just too hard to pull.
I agree, that thing is way too stiff for any in town riding.
It is an 05, with a 117 right hand drive.
Is there a fix, like an easy pull set up you can get for a harley?
Any ideas will be forwarded to him today, he is getting desperate.

My 04, 107. pulls great, its as easy as my 2000 wide glide.

His 05 117, RHD, pulls extremely hard, almost impossible to ride in town, it will wear you out. He just got the bike, I believe it has about 8,000 miles on it.

What has he done with it? Has he pulled the rod and cleaned/checked it out. Has he lubed the cable and lever? Has he pulled the primary and inspected the clutch? Or is it just sitting cause he doesn't know what to do? If you ask here will you and him be able to do what I asked about above?

I wasn't aware of the situation really until last night when he called me.
He doesn't have a computer, so I told him I would ask and see what you guys said about the situation.

Well then at least lube the cable and see if that is what it is. Then if not pull the clutch rod, clean it with emery cloth and see if that solves the issue. If not then pull the primary and inspect the clutch basket and see if it maybe has a broken carrier.

Not dogging you out but to come on and ask an open question without even lubing the clutch cable is different! Especially if you've had HD's and should know some of this stuff.

Yep Ray the Man around here when it comes to maintenance reliability! :2thumbs:.......mans shooting for 100K on that bike!

Lube cables with "Bike Aid" available from most bike shops.

Lube clutch rod with std. grease or "Anti-Seize".

I was just asking an open question to see whats out there.
I have not had a chance to look at his bike other that right when he got it, at the dealer.
He is bringing it over tonight and we will see whats up with the situation.

You'll find a lot of great help here but if you want to see what not to do, read the thread titled "vibrations". It will tell you a few things to never do on this site. Never steal someone's thread (and you didn't). Never cry about these big motors vibrating too much (and you didn't) and never compare Big Dogs to other bikes you like better (borderline on the wide glide, but still OK). Good luck

I hope your friend is older than 12.... jk .... when I missed adjusted my push rod it was hard to pull ... check the adjustment for the push rod ... just my .02cents ... :up:

05 's had known clutch issues. You'll find many answers here. As Ray noted there was an issue with the shaft. According to my guy, They were engineered wrong in 05. They were oversize in diameter.

When I had my clutch brought up to speed. they went ahead and installed a heavier clutch spring for me. This definetly affected the pull on the clutch . but I don't personally consider it an issue.

Switched the clutch spring out and solved the issue.
