Clutch Problems

................ AND this nut is a lefty. This means the nut will self tighten. I say his problem is not the nut that holds on the clutch basket.
And I say you're full of shit; with all due respect of course.

Merry Christmas.....:D

#1 yes, you should be more considerate.

#2 if you had been here any length of time and read any of the technical posts, you would know that the clutch hub nut is a known problem due to the fact that the loc-tite was left off a lot of bikes even to the extent that a service bulletin was issued just for this item.

#3 people do what people do, get off his shit and stop bad mouthing a fellow member.

#4 financial conditions change quite rapidly for many people. sometimes you finally think you can afford your dream bike and go ahead and shoulder the burden and, guess what, SHIT HAPPENS.

so, have a good day.
Very well put....:2thumbs:

For sure, we should all be considerate...especially me. I would throw in patience as well.

I did read about the loc-tite. I just replaced the stock primary with an open belt. That nut was slobbered in red loc-tite AND this nut is a lefty. This means the nut will self tighten. I say his problem is not the nut that holds on the clutch basket.

I consider myself a poser and a yuppie. I ride a production chopper to work. A production chopper is already an oxymoron. I'm a poser on an oxymoron. It's not a negative thing, it just is.

We can't for see the future, but good financial decision making skills today will minimize the shit when it happens. For example, taking out a loan on a BDM is a bad idea. They depreciate quickly. I bought my 2007 K-9 for $16k, only 2000 mile, a repo. There were a lot out guys out there upside down on their note.

I like bike forums, but the advice is a mix of good and useless. You have to know how figure which dude has some "know-how".

You have a nice day too.
i guess the old adage applies here. "YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID" :zz2cents:

I tought that if the hub nut came loose the clutch would slip really bad.
At 5k I had the same problem. Not only was the clutch hub nut loose but the splines were rounded on the clutch basket. Well I replaced the clutch assembly which was "upgraded" according to Baker. Another 5k later guess what? Clutch hub nut is loose again and had to be red loctited and tightened again. I have grown to expect it now and will check it every primary oil change. As my wife coined it "Custom Crap". I still love it. It's the nature of the beast.

Good luck!

Woodchuck states, "I guess the old adage applies here. "YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID""

Very profound. My ignorance is infinite, for sure.

I don't know what the guy's clutch problem is. Everyone's just making suggestions. Just like you Mr. Woodchuck...making suggestions. From the seat of a computer they are more like guesses.

The nut on the clutch basket is a lefty for a reason. That reason is to keep it from flying off. Yes, red loc-tite should be used on this nut. Red loc-tite was all over the nut and transmission shaft of my 2007 K-9...from the factory, I assume.

My experience comes from working on other air cooled big v-twins, which have never loosen up the lefty clutch basket nut. Can it happen? Murphy's Law says it probably will.

I like the adage by Socrates better, " I know that I know nothing ".

Going for ride now, Cor.

This is my opion, if you can shift into all the gears. Meaning, if you sit on your bike and rock it back and forth shifting thru the gears. Just want to make sure its not a transmission issue too. Then I would say from what you said happened, either the bearing carrier bolts have came loose on the back side of your clutch or the bearing carrier is broken. Which I think you would have heard some different noises coming from your bike. Good luck to you!!

Mr. RubWhore,
You and I have both said that...open it up, take a look, what the hell.

I bought mine, knowing I would work on it. I love taking them apart and together again.

I like you. Your a self depravating pervert...like me. I went to your gallery to look for work on the springer front end but what did I find...what the hell are those ladies doing?

I need to go to your parties.

Later.

i dont beleive your problem is in the primaray. if you adjust the clutch cable out and it feel real stiff. the problem is the clutch release (pipe side). look at the clutch adjusting nut and sqeeze the clutch lever. if it does not move about 3/8" and the lever feels hard.the clutch release has slipped out of position and you will need to remove the cover on the right side of the tranny to correct it. it is two plates seperated by three ball bearings. examine the acton that accures when you pull the clutch so to understand it workings. you will need to adjust the cable all the way down so you can reposition the bearings so that it can move the push rod. and be very careful when reinstalling not to pull on the cable. after, adjust the push rod nout the adjust the cable. (do not pull the clutch lever before adjusting the push rod nut)
