CLUTCH PROBLEMS I THINK!

31/2 hours into a 4 hour ride and my bike just quits like i put it in nuetral. I grabed the clutch lever but it just floped back and forth. when i got to the side of the road i tried to get it back in gear but it was happening. Today i pulled the cover and actuator and the cable was intact, i was really hoping that the cable was broken . Is my clutch shot, any ideas, advice, Hell I'am afraid to drive it out of town i get one thing fix and something else breaks. Guess better now then this summer huh!

You did "flop" the clutch lever around with the cover off, didn't you. Thinking the cable could be broke inside the sheath. Just thinkin out loud.

Yes as soon as i started coasting i grabed the clutch lever and there was nothing it was just loose like the cable was broke.I can't check the clutch nut until i get my jack back , i hope tomorrow.

Think about this a second. The clutch is not engaging the engine to the trans. A broken cable won't do that, a backed off lock nut on the adjustment wouldn't do that, unless the adjustment screw in the middle tightened, and I don't see how that would happen. If the 6 bolts that hold the pressure plate, backed off or broke, that would do it, or a basket breaking. Keep us up to date, I'm interested to find out myself.

Check ur throwout bearing. The updated version is way beefer than stock.

Yeah I latched on to the flopping clutch handle to fast.
Broken Trans main shaft?
Backed off bolts or a broken basket would have made a hell of a noise.

If the clutch was working fine and he was riding for a while not using the clutch and then went to use the clutch with no resistance at the lever, it's most likely the hub nut has loosened up. This has happened twice to me. Just saying...:D

I know, shame on me! Didn't let the loc-tite set and you know Washington state, you get a week of dry days and ya gotta ride... :roll::roll::roll:

It happened twice to me also, but I torqued to 150# and been good for 2 yrs now. I smoked the bitch, but I'm not looking forward to have to remove it either.

Loose nuts, broken cables, and/or broken throwout bearing won't do this. I'm thinking that only the stuff you mentioned, a broken primary chain, or broken main shaft could give you the grief you're describing...

On the right hand side of the transmission case, you will see a set of letters and numbers. Copy that down and post it on here or to me in a PM. Being an '07, it could have the old style main shaft, in which case it's possible it broke on you.
Was there any indication before this happened? Clutch didn't feel 100%? Or maybe transmission felt kinda clunky or jumping? Noise?

Did you install any new parts on the bike? New clutch cable maybe? The ramp is walking as if the big circlip popped out, the cable end of the ball ramp is past the circlip's groove? That's the right side.

Left side is the basket walk as in #16 (permalink).

Broken cable end is a third variable (as mentioned).
