Clutch problem

I need some help. I have no clutch. I took my primary cover off and found that my clutch basket moves about a 1/4 inch or better. Is this normal and yes the clutch hub nut is tight. Has any one run in to any problem like this?

Edit: Nut is tight, then are we talking the clutch outer, you pull the clutch lever in or is this with lever out?

Are you talking about a Bigdog motorcycle clutch or a Harley?
