Clutch issue

I would definitely torque that clutch nut while everything is off. Mine came loose and caused it to slip. Don't forget, it is left hand threads, lefty tighty. Also check the bolts that are behind the clutch, (can't get to them, but you can physically see them) make sure they are not backing out. I also would replace the clutch plate discs and steel plates. They are not that expensive. Do check the adjustment on the rod that pushes on the throw out bearing, make sure that is adjusted correctly. You adjust it from the other side. Do this adjustment before adjusting the cable.

Last night I changed my primary fluid. While I had the cover off I thought I'd check to see if the clutch hub nut was loose. The bike had been acting sluggish in higher gears. The rpms would go up with throttle but the bike would creep up to speed ( no torque) 65-80mph. Anyway I removed the four bolts, clutch pack, pressure plate, diaphram seat spring, clutch diapham spring and pivot plate to get to the nut. It looked fine so I left it alone. ( I could see locetite on the threads) I put everything back the way it was. Torqued the bolts 20ft lbs w locetite. Cover back on, 32 ounces of spectro heavy duty primary oil. Adjusted the clutch and took it out. I soon lost power to the rear wheel and bearly made it back home. Now the clutch seems like it won't engage. With the bike running I can put it in gear and let out the clutch and it doesn't move. I can go through the gears while it's standing still???? I've tried to adjust the clutch several times with out success. Did something break ( main shaft) how can I diagnose this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you[/quote]

You do not need to dissassemble the pressure plate assembly to gain access to the clutch hub nut.

Remove the retaining CIR-clip that holds in the throwout bearing assembly and pull out the bearing carrier assembly. This will allow access to the clutch hub nut through the opening when using a socket. The clutch pushrod will need to be pulled back a bit as well to allow room for the socket.

When replacing the CIR-clip, install it with the sharp cut edge facing (you) outward.
