Clutch creep 05 Chopper

Energy One
Had clutch replaced at 10k service. Clutch cable broke 47mi later, replaced it. At 100mi (on new cable) had it adjusted. They told me to bring it back in at 300mi (on new cable).I'm at 285. The problem I had today was approaching a stop light I started down shifting, everything was great until 2nd gear. That's where it kept creeping and wouldn't shift anymore.I pulled over and shut her down. Checked cable everything seemed OK. Turned key on pulled clutch lever it went to neutral no problem. Started bike drove home no problem (10 Mi). It seems like its been banging a little more than usual from neutral to 1st from dead stop. Cable Adjustment or more clutch problems?

Rainer, Here are few possibilities to consider.

1. Too much fluid in the primary will make it hard to shift and find neutral
2. Worn Clutch Spring would limit how much the clutch discs separate again making it hard to shift and find neutral.
3. Lack of grease in the clutch actuator
4. Bent or un-lubed clutch push rod
5. Wrong Fluid in the Primary
6. Clutch Basket Lose (torque to 100 ft/lbs and be sure to use RED Loctite)
7. If your clutch plates and discs were removed its possible to put one or more back in wrong which would limit how far the actuator can separate all the clutch discs.
8. Buy a manual for your Dog if you don't have one

10. Neutral Adjustment on the transmission needs adjusting (pretty rare)

Let us know what you find ... I would pull the clutch actuator cover and clutch cable along with the clutch push rod and start there. Check for proper lubrication and binding/sticking -- the clutch cable can be pretty close to certain pipes which can be a problem. It is very easy to do this and you don't need many tools, just patience.

finding neutral is not a problem . It's shifting from neutral to 1st where I get a bang. All other gears are great. Years ago late 60s early 70s I road HDs. I think they did the same thing now that I think about it. I read another post that suggested maybe its just breaking in the new clutch. THe creeping episode freaked me out because I'm really worried about breaking down. I wish I could work on my own bike but my disabilities limit what I can do.Thanks so much for your help! I can go into the shop with some savvy and not get the new guy special.

if its a brand new clutch then unless they fucked it up (they may not have tightened the clutch nut to 100 ft ibs) I would say it just needs adjusting. Also as it is an 05 get a new pushrod as some were faulty - mine was. Get one from Nelson they are not expensive.

sounds like a broken or cracked and soon to break clutch basket..pull cover and clutch out and inspect it,your year is known for that..

Nope... simpler guys...

Check your idle speed... I'm betting its low.. should be around 1100... if not it will clunk into gear.

Then check the HOW TO section linked in my sig... and adjust your clutch pushrod to make sure that is correct to help the creeping.

This is what they replaced ,pack, clutch plate, pre-measur / assy, clutch, bearing carrier / shim, clutch hub / mainshaft left side seal / snap ring,lh case ms 52mmx.08 / o-ring,#22 / clutch pressure plate / seat, diaphram spring / snap ring. This is off the invoice

Just got back from Morelands Choppers Everything feels good looks good & rides normal. They said the glitch I had was more than likely the clutch breaking in. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks Ray for turning me on to them . Thanks to everyone else for the great info!!
