Clutch Cable NOT Broken

Broken clutch cables seems to come up often on the board. I've got 16000 miles on my cable and debating on whether or not to just change it out before it breaks. I have a new spare. Hate to fix something that is not broke. I've read were people have changed there cable and it breaks again in a short amount of time. How many out there have NEVER broken a clutch cable and how many miles and year of dog. I'll start....

16000 miles

By the way I asked a dealer in Little Rock about this and he told me that Barnett was the best cable maker out there and they have never seen a cable break on these dogs . Apparantly he's not a member of the board :D

Broke at 7,000, then did another replacement proactively this year just before Sturgis at 13,000, cable had frayed wires at that point but wasn't broken. I would change it.

based on others experiences if i were you i would change it just to be safe. i think its a good idea for all current as well as new owners to look at the recurring problems with these bikes and take the proactive steps to avoid them right from the start. better to learn from others mistakes. glad to hear you got 16k out of your clutch cable but i would not chance it any longer. good luck

I have a spare and do not plan on fixing something that isn't broke...2008 K9 10,048 miles stock cable in tact.

I just wanta ride
I have never broken a clutch cable itself but did break the clutch cable eyelet on the handle side. Barnett said that 1 in 50,000 cables break at the eyelet. They replaced the cable with a new and improved cable. Seems like the cable is thicker and coated with a thicker plastic coating.

13000, cable broke at tranny end, also noticed that my clutch hub nut loose again from down shifting with no clutch. Had a feeling that would happen.

I wouldn't change out a functioning part. It may simply be a case of a few bad apples. I lost one on my 06 mastiff at about 8k. The end popped off. The cables were kept lubed and never ridden in the rain.

Have to agree don't change it unless inspection shows wear or damage .. not too many people will pull it apart though and look at it . I'm only at 10000miles but have multiple bikes the chop did not get a long ride this year:( I wonder if using the wrong lube would damage these coated cables ..I have held off pumping anything inside the cable housing .. have 45000 miles on on of my bikes and never lubed the cable ??? :job:
