So, last night at approximately 0030, I'm on my way home from work and slow to make a right hand turn. I squeeze in the clutch lever, downshift and 'POP', I can feel the cable snap and the lever goes to the grip.
Fortunately I only had about 4 miles to go, on a back road with no stop signs or lights. I power shift through the gears to get it up to speed, and do the same to downshift, making it home without issue.
Tore it apart today and the nice thing I noticed was that I did not have to remove my pipes (V&H Big Radius) to get the rod out and the cover off. I only had to loosen the rear heat shield and slide it back a few inches.
So, here's the question. I called Barnett, who made the original clutch cable (I have about 56K miles on the cable) and they say that they are familiar with the BDM cable and usually field 3 or 4 requests a week for one. Barnett says the cost is $102 for a new cable.
WSW has cables produced by Motion Pro for $68.
Is there a difference between the two cables (besides the obvious cost disparity). Is it worth $102 for a Barnett that did provide almost 60K trouble free miles? Does anyone have any experience with the cables that WSW sells and have they put some miles on them?
Thanks in advance for any responses. I'm sure others would like to know also.
