Clutch and shifting problems!

Hello everyone. If anyone has experienced this or heard of this please let me know. I appreciate it. I have been having a strange problem with my 07 K-9. While riding I lost all clutch pressure at the lever. Clutch would not engage at all. I got it moving and was able to gently power shift it. On the highway the clutch lever pressure returned and the clutch was working. When I got off the highway I lost the clutch pressure again and the clutch would not engage. When I arrived at my repair shop they adjusted the clutch and under a load the clutch failed and lost clutch lever pressure again. I know it is a mechanical clutch and not hydraulic so the pressure should not go and come back. I only have 7600 miles on it. They are going to take it apart on Monday. And no it is not under warranty. I found a few posts here about clutch baskets coming loose or tranny bearings. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the nut on your push rod may have backed out...

Thanks Gas Man. I was hoping it would be something simple. I will keep this post updated as the mechanic takes it apart.

Well I heard from my wrench today. 50 percent of the splines on my clutch are gone. The nut on it was most likely loosening and tightening on its own which explains why I was losing and gaining clutch pressure at the lever. Baker recommended replacing the whole clutch basket containing the new clutch of course. 750 bucks plus labor. Baker has apparently upgraded their clutch assembly for this. Sounds like a recall without a recall to me. This problem started with occasionally not being able to downshift into first gear and the shifter peg falling flat forward. Keep an eye out my Big Dog brothers!!!

FWIW - I would replace the basket with a Bandit - Bullet proof and I love mine. Do a search and you'll see positive comments. Only trick is you need to shave down the inside of the cover a tiny bit - That instruction is included with clutch or you can always call them - we did and they walked us through the process.

The shifter falling down and not getting up could means you need to lube it - no biggy - mine did that because not enough lube during assembly - Did it once and never had a problem with it again.

Thanks LamboV12. I called Bandit and spoke with the owner John (who also recommended Wicked Bastard Cycles for parts). Looks like an excellent product. I would have purchased the Bandit clutch but I need a whole clutch assembly contained in a new clutch basket. My clutch basket was FUBAR.
