clutch adjustment

I have a 04 mastiff and was having trouble finding neutral(unless it's rolling) and it was clunking going into gears at times. So I followed all the directions for adjusting the clutch which seem to help others on the site, but to no avail. It's still doing the exact same things. I even tried it twice thing that maybe I might have done something wrong the first time. My clutch isn't slipping or anything like that so I'm not sure what to do next.

Thoughts?

Thanks Wayne

check the heim joints on the shifter linkage. (clean and lube.)

pull the outer primary and check the clutch basket for breakage. (original style was weak and tended to break) (replace with bandit clutch)

check the clutch plates for wear. (replace with bandit clutch)

I have an 04 as well. You have to remember that on Big Twins the trans and engine are two seperate parts. Finding neutral when stopped can sometimes be a problem and that's normal with our engines and trans configuration.

As far as the "clunking" does it happen in every gear, or just from N to 1st?

N to 1st seems to be the worst but somethings going up and more often downshifting. The only reason I bring it up is that it seems to be getting worse. N use to be very easy to fine. BTW the bike only has 5000 miles and I can't say that I run it overly hard (well most of the time).

I'm going with Woodbutcher on this as well. If you're not comfortable doing the work yourself take it to a bike shop in your area. Don't feel obligated to seek out a BD Dealer. Most H.D Dealers will be able to help you out.

Thank for the info. Is this something I need to take care of ASAP or do I have a little time?

Thanks again

BDM may step up but for a better product all the way around that you would more than likely be happier with, check out the bandit.

also pull the pushrod and check it for wear and clean and regrease the ball and ramp assembly

to make downshifting and finding neutral easier just give a quick zip on the gas as you are shifting - should slide right in
