Clutch adj. rod cover

Had the seal leaking behind pulley and tore everything down to replace it. Had a heck of a time getting the clutch rod cover off. It was super tight. I was thinking that the rubber o-ring was making it stick. Has anyone else had any trouble removing it?, If so what methods did you use to remove it, and should I use something to lubricate the o-ring?

TIA

apparently this is normal, mine has been tight each time i've had to take it off. one recommendation is a rubber strap wrench. should work well but haven't tried it yet. :2thumbs:

My personal favorite is the end of my cresent and a hammer. PUt about 3 layers of electrical tape over the dimple spot you are going to hit... tap tap tap around...

Then be sure to put loctite on the cover before spinning it back on so you don't end up like Big House.

If you have a screwdriver wth a rubberized handle, put the end of the handle in one of the insets in the rod cover and gentle tap with a hammer. 1 or two taps gets it to the point you can remove by hand. Will not damage the chrome.
Also, which seal was leaking. The large outer seal or the smaller o-rin seal that is on the inside of the spacer. I had the same leak and when I took the pulley of and removed the spacer it looked as if it was the small o-ring type seal as it was torn.

It was the small inner seal. It looked mashed and distorted. The belt was slinging tranny fluid all over the rear of the bike. I went ahead and replaced the larger seal while I was in there.
As for the cover I used a piece of pine wood with my rubber dead blow to get that thing off and I had to really hammer on it.

Also I know most of you guys run Redline but can I use the HD Formula+ tranny and primary case lube in the tranny? Its what I have. If not I was told I could use Mobil 1 20 50.

Thanks for the info. The small o-ring on mine was ripped. Will be replacing it and the outerseal as well over the weekend. The guys at Arlen Ness swear by the Red-line. Says the only issue would be if you overfilled as it has a tendancy to foam.
