Cluch Squealing

Fired up my dog for the first time since November and rode to work...

Noticed a little bit of squealing when I would pull the clutch all the way in, but it pretty much went away by the time I got to work - 20 miles
Thought that maybe because of the cold it needed to get things flowing and lubed again...

After work it was fine for a mile or so then the sqealing got worse.

When I partially relax the clutch it will go away, and not happen again for a couple pulls, but it came back this morning and seems worse now...

I am not noticing and slipping or dragging...

? any idea's ?
... am I causing more damage by riding ?

I was heading to Detroit this afternoon, and my truck is in the shop as well.

I was going to try to spin it off with a hammer and nylon corking tool ?

I remember when I was in San Diego I couldn't get mine off so took it to the dealler and the mechanic was a young small women. She put it on the rack and using rubber surgical gloves spun it right off!

When you put it on use some anti-seize on it. It has an o-ring in it also. Make sure your ball and ramp is full of grease while your in there.

Cutty....when Gas and I did mine...mine was on real tight.....Gas took some electrical tape and taped around those grooves and then took a hammer and l think it was a screw driver or punch and tapped it loose...this way nothing was scratched

You guys remember Dogvet. He always recommended anti-sieze on the rod.
I use grease on mine but just wanted to throw that out there.

Thanks for all the help guys, seems like I'll need that nylon "persuader"... I'll use the high temp grease on everthing except the pulley cover bolts...

I was hoping to leave my exhaust on since I can get to the clutch cover, but got to take the whole thing apart to get to the wiper to get it put back together.

Are you still running the stock clutch or the bandit setup? I remember the carrier issue with the stock unit and something about the bandit needing a shim on certain year models.

As Dave said... I tend to put a few layers of electrical tape on the dimples of the cover. Take a cresent wrench with a rubber grip on it... put the rubber grip to the taped spot and a small hammer.

And even though it you go thru all that I still suggest you put some blue loctite back on the threads of the cover when you replace it.

As far as what to use. I love mobil 1 grease for all this stuff. I wouldn't use never sieze myself. And my belief as why it went away is cause it just took a while for the primary oil to get in there and give ya some lube. Kinda like the difference betwen a 20 yr old and a 40 yr old. Right boys?

I need to get some exhaust gaskets since I gave my last set to Doug... Probably get 6-8 this time.

...As far as lubing up those 40 year olds - you got a while before you have to worry about that Gas... But Vegas, not so long :lol:
