OK....have an 08' K9, Brand new battery....turn on key...hit run switch....try to start...and all I get is a "click"! try run switch...hit start...."click"!!Then get pissed off...walk away....come back and try again.....and it starts normal!! Runs and starts great all day....next morning (after being on a tender ) ...yup you guessed it....key, run switch....starter...."click". Starts normal the next time!

What do all the smart mechanics out there think it might be???? Is this the beginning of the "EHC" dying??? All opinions welcomed!!! :bang::bang:

Sounds like you have a bad battery, or have a bad connection somewhere. Could be starter problem, after checking battery and connection, I would take back off starter solenoid and clean things up inside. My batteries seem to last me about 3 years and thats with keeping it on a tender. Most have no problems with computer, it seem like on here that everyone does. No

What type battery did you get, what are the CCAs, are all your battery connections clean and tight, did you get a load test done several times on the battery, is it fully charged, and has this ever happened before with a previous battery?

This is just my opinion.

If it clicks, it is probably not the EHC. If it was the EHC it wouldn't click.

The click is either from the starter relay or the starter itself.

Swap the starter relay with the horn relay and see how that works for you.

If swapping the starter relay doesn't help then you probably have a starter or solenoid problem.
Sometimes the wire to the starter gets corroded on the inside and has a big enough of a resistance that the starter wont work correctly.

Was the battery pre-filled with electrolyte? If it was it could have been sitting on the self for some time. I try to buy batteries that are dry and need the electrolyte added when purchased.

Did you fully charge the battery? Any new battery needs to be charged before putting it into service.

Clean all battery cable ends with a copper wire brush and place the heaviest wires onto the battery first.

Starter wire

I had the same problem earlier this week. I turned my 2008, K9, off and it would only "Click." After checking the BDM forum I checked the green wire running from the Solenoid to the starter. It was broken. I held the disconnected wire on the broken connector and pushed the starter. My BigDog started immediately. However, I also discovered the black wire running form the solenoid to the the starter was loosing insulation and in poor condition. (This info may be helpful.)

Where can I buy the correct black wire that runs fron the solenoid to the starter? Is this a universal wire that works on Harley's and BDM's? I am open to recommendations.

Thanks,

In the mean time until you get one or get around to fixing it apply some silicone caulk on it and seal it. I got away with it that way for a couple years.

Sounds like you have a lithium ion battery... they do that. Opposite from lead acid battery. Need to excite internals with a couple hits before it spins it over. Check it out n see what type of battery. This is what mine does as a lithium ion
