My bike has the clicking noise so I cleaned the starting contacts that was coverd in a black dust. The bike started up I took it for a ride and started it up about 2 hrs after my ride. The next day the starter sounded weak and would not start.I cleaned the starter contacts again and this time it is back to the clicking noise.
After that didn't work I cleaned the solenoid contacts and still nothing but a click. The battery is only about 2 months old so I put in the old battery and tried to jump it with my truck but it still only had the same click.
Does this sound like a bad starter?

After a full charge and removing the charger, wait at least an hour and measure the battery voltage across the terminals. It needs to be very near 12.8 volts.

Even NEW batteries have been known to be bad.

I'll also mention that JUMP STARTING these bikes (even with the jump vehicle not running) can cause possible EHC damage. Don't ask me how....just saying.

Hey Pumpdogs, my buddy has an 02 Pitbull. has a hell of a time with his starter also.
replaces it about once a year. He bought one from the Big Dog dealer in Springfield Mo. It cam with a lifetime warranty so getting a new one once year is not to bad. you just have the labor of replacing it...

Combination of things. no compression release is #1. and it has to crank a bit before it fires up..never on first try if it has sat any length at all.

With the primary cover off you can see the jackshaft engage the flywheel but it does not turn at all.
