CIRCUIT BREAKER QUESTION

Having starter rebuilt...so while I had fairings off I replaced horn relay(horn had quit working)and also took off 40amp ciruit breaker. Well son swept garage and cb now missing. My guestion is can it be replaced with a 12V 50 amp cb but with no reset. I have one of those as no one has the shortstop 24VDC 40 RESETABLE in town. Any help appreciated.

Can replace with a 40 amp fuse (would not go to 50 AMP). Many of the early models had the circuti break replaced to a 40 amp fuse to provide better protection to the Voltage regulator/EHC, surprised your 08 still had a CB on it to begin with.

Just a 40 amp fuse. Check out a car audio shop for an in-line fuse holder that can be installed using the orginal wires or get an aftermarket in-line covered BLADE STYLE fuse holder from an automtive store. Make sure the fuse holder has proper sized 12ga to 10ga wire.

Here is a 10ga wire...holder and have done buisness with them before

Walmart has this splice in version but the wire gauge on this one is probably too large.

Yep got the breaker on my 08. Guess they figured out the prob with the voltage regulators and went back to the breakers. The 05 and some 06 had the potentially bad VR and based on the VR lot number you could get the 40 amp fuse kit to replace the breaker. My 05 had the VR that was coded and I got one of the fuse kits and installed it.

I replaced mine with a auto-reset 40 amp breaker that I got at Nappa auto parts. I will pull the number off of it tomorrow. Had it on for 2-3 years now.

Thanks everybody for replying. Just didnt know what was correct way to go on an 08'. Have starter being rebuilt(jackshaft broke) and just ordered new Braille battery. Cant wait to get back on the road. 75 degrees today! THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE.
