I just returned from about a month out of town, get the bike out to ride, and? Found my rear wheel (08 K9) has the chrome coming off in little flakes all the way around next to center of wheel on both sides, WTF? So I searched the forum and seems I have a 6 month chrome warranty? damm...I coulda swore they told me a year. I bought the bike end of august last year (10 months ago). Do you guys think there's any chance they will work with me. I sure won't buy another wheel 100% outta pocket. Can you re-chrome it? Any help is apprec.

Always start with Honey first, Start with the Dealer and then move on to Bigdog if needed. Be nice ask nice and remember "If you don't ask you'll never get laid". :)

Me too '08 K9

Wow, I was wiping the dust off my wheels and the same thing, only the front wheel. I also have an '08 K9 bought new at the end of Jan. I've already got my warranty claim in for mine. They said it will take about a month to get it made and sent to my local service center (1hr 30 minutes away) then they'll swap it out. Mine was also around the inside edge about 5 to six inch long piece flacked off. Don't matter ain't gonna keep me from ridin' it anyway.

Chrome problem

Chrome problems can be an issue with the factory. If caught close to the warranty date they may step up and help you. :yesnod:

woohoo! I need to update the thread with good news and bad. Good=my wheel and pulley are being replaced as we speak no cost to me. Bad news=there is known problem with the chroming process on the 08's (just not a recall yet). Im glad BD is owning up, but I hate to think what will start to flake next. Special thanks to Cycle City in Kingsport, TN, they are #1 in BD dealerships. I would recommend everyone buy there, the owner Dwayne is a good guy.

always nice to hear good news.

also, IMHO, it is not a good thing to get chrome if you live near the ocean. salt water and chrome do not mix.

i think salt water is bad for all metals. anyway, i live in the mountains of north carolina, near tennessee and virginia so that wouldn't be my problem. they (dealer) had a bike on their showroom floor start to flake and had three more come in before mine.

salt water and billet is worse!

I moved to Florida when I had 500 miles on my bike. In the first year, the chrome on the lower legs went to hell. Basically, any little tiny stone nick, not even a chip in the chrome, but just a peck, goes to hell with just the salt air. Little over a year ago I bought a set of polished lowers off a 2004 Ridgeback like I had on my old bike. Put them on and I just keep them washed. Shiny as the day I put them on, and if they get sand blasted in time, I can just polish them back out.

If I could find a set of polished rocker boxes, I'd probably replace my chomies when they go down the toobs!!!

Since then I replaced the chrome fork brace with a 2004 polished one.

i had the same issue with my rear wheel on a 08 k9 in the same spot. i'm on my 3rd rear wheel. (yea they replaced it twice) now i'm out of chrome warranty and have a funny feeling it's not over yet!

i feel your pain. my 08' k-9 is waiting for its 3rd set of wheels, pulleys, and rotors. it all started a couple of weeks after bringing home my new k-9. now the new stuff has only ben on for 2 1/2 months, and back to the dealer we go. fortunately bdm is taking care of the problem, but what happens next time?

Replaced yesterday

Just got back from my 50 mile ride after having the front wheel replaced. I was quite surprised it only took two weeks for BigDog to send the replacement, took me a week to schedule when I could take it and leave it for a day. Anyway BigDog didn't even need a digital photo or anything, hell it could have been from abuse or neglect (which it wasn't) they didn't even question it. Maybe a bad thing like they know there was a problem. Don't care just glad to have the baby back. Drove the 50 miles on the VRod with the wife ridin bitch. She hated it but she loved the ride home since she got to drive the VRod home. Havin a good day. See ya....
