Chrome Flaking off on RH Fork Tube

The chrome on my RH side Fork Tube is flaking off pretty bad. I was debating on disassembling it and having it re-chromed or buy a new Fork Tube. Since BDM's site is horrible, I haven't been able to get a part # for the fork tube to compare pricing. Any suggestions on which one to do?

I had better luck calling BDPP than the website when it comes to part numbers. They could do a better job with the website in that regard. If it's the fork tube, get a shop to order from Drag, the fork length is 24.25"(stock is 24" but 1/4" shouldn't mess the geometery). I just ordered some this past Tuesday.

Thanks for the info Xtreeme. Looks like I'm disassembling and taking to the chrome shop. Fortunately I have a well known chrome shop nearby, a little expensive, but the work is top notch. Never had to take apart a fork tube, hopefully it goes smoothly. I can't imagine it being to difficult.

What's the name of the chrome shop near you? Kicking around the idea of getting my triple trees chromed....can't stand polishing aluminum.

That may be my little winter project as well.

Let us know how it goes for you.

I actually called up BDPP and can get a replacement at a decent price, so I'm going that direction now.

Were you finally able to find the right part# ?

I guess I'll try giving them a call as well then. Their website is still no help.

Bad news to all that want to replace this. I have chrome peeling on the slider and dust cap. Just got done ordering from BDMPP.

RH Slider Tube (BDM130-01039) - $360
Chrome Dust Cap (BDM130-01041) - $45
Retaining Ring - $3
Oil Seal - ??

I should've just taken it apart and had it rechromed. When I ordered the tube yesterday, Bob from BDMPP made it sound like it was the entire slider assembly. Just throw it on and go. But after finding the exploded view of the fork assembly, it looked like the part I ordered was just the tube. I called back today and found out from someone else that it's just the tube. So, I had to add the rest of the items above. $400 for flaking chrome on my damn slider and dust cap. This sucks. Not to mention all the other chrome parts I need to have rechromed over the winter.

Plus your time to replace the above, caused by BS faulty workmanship.

That is why I haven't done anything yet. Still trying to figure it out.

Thanks for the update.
