Chopping up a 2002 Mastiff

Say I wanted to chop up a 2002 Mastiff and rebuild it on a softail chopper frame. How much of the bike could I re-use? I know nothing about the older bikes. I know the driveline could be re-used, anyone know if the offset is a standard 1.5"? Also, are the controls HD 12v or something evil like the newer models? What are the wheels worth?

I'm guessing that apart from the front end you could re-use pretty much all of it with a bit of tinkering here and there. I also think the 02's had standard HD type controls and electrics.

What is the rake/stretch and how much over stock is the front end? I'm assuming stock they have 3 degree trees? Jerry is kicking around the idea of chopping his up and completely rebuilding it. I hope his wife isn't on the forum :) Anyway, What I'm thinking is we put a little more rake in the front either with trees or cut it like mine, I'll do the trail calc to figure out which is better. Ditch the rear fender and do a nice strutless welded right to the swingarm so we can slam it. He never rides a passenger anyway. Goto a one piece teardrop stretched tank, ditch the dashboard and put on a minimal speedo off the bars. New bars, controls, and wheels/tires. Low profile blinkers, etc. Custom paint with naked women and dragons. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Any pics of mastiffs that have been redone?

Depending on what size rear the soft tail frame you are using has you may have to go with a different inner primary. I think the 02's had 230mm tires so if your frame only supports a 140 then you won't need that much offset.

Engage with Ron from Vision on the sheetmetal work. My bike (Mastiff) is near complete - beyond expectations, his work is great. Like you, I would have loved to put an american suspension front end on this (might still do that) it will tie in well with the bike.
